Nothing against the Appalachians and Ozarks which are wonderful in their own ways I’m sure, but in my bones I do not consider you a mountain if you do not break treeline. If there are trees on top of you you are a hill, to me.

per last fm, the Cure have finally been dethroned as my most-listened artist. It’s an obviously incomplete data set (missing an easy 1000+ GD listens on Relisten, Play Dead, and CD) but pretty wild to see a lifetime of listening matched by an 8 month deep dive that is still in the relative shallows
Checked in on the 2019 …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead album and it’s pretty good! Kinda straightforward for them but they’ve always been able to land hooks amidst the noise. “Don’t Look Down” could have been a minor 90s grunge radio hit (complimentary) music.apple.com/us/album/don...

Had a blast climbing Mt. Lindsey’s NW Ridge this week, except for the hike to the ridge which was a slog and the hike down which was a death march and the part where I stayed too high on the ridge and had to do a sketchy downclimb off a spire to get to the crux, which was very fun climbing

Before this year, when I resolved to make a serious effort with the Grateful Dead, the answer would have been either them or REM. Now it’s just REM. I respect the craft but man…I just don’t see what there is to like about them. They don’t Do anything!

the Dead clear this without blinking if you like them and don’t come close if you don’t; the interesting angle for them is in which individual years of their career do they clear this. I think all of 68-74 are in, 77 is a lock, 76, 78, and 79 are probable, and that’s as far as my knowledge goes
