Blog update: "Theme From S'Express" was the second number one in the NME Indie Charts to also reach number one in the national charts. Inclusivity was at its heart - it cared not for cool cuts, and whether you were in a club or at home, it sought to thrill your feet into moving.

115. S'Express - Theme From S'Express (Rhythm King)

All the singles to top the NME Indie Charts since its launch in 1981, complete with an overview of the other music in the charts each week.

Got there early enough to be able to get our normal parking spot and get along Canal Street before the mayhem ensued. The Boy managed to stumble across an ipad tutorial on the Apple shop, and of course get his traditional lunch.

The Boy has decided on one more trip to Manchester for the last Saturday if the school holidays, and I've just seen Pride is on so it looks like an early start to get there in time to find a parking space 🎉

Saw a very inspiring news video this morning about a man jailed for attempting to throw drugs into HMP Hull. I've been thinking about it all day and felt a tribute was merited.

If you’re in the mood for more “bloody hell this is good” old movie discourse, my podcast series on the greatest sci fi movies ever (according to a list published in 2000AD so you know it’s good) has reached 2001: A Space Odyssey. (Via Substack / Comfort Blanket Patreon)

On a whim, I watched Black Narcissus last night, cos there’s never a reason not to. It’s basically a 1940s Shitty Green Screen film. Nobody is anywhere real. It’s entirely studio bound. But because every effect is handmade, and it’s thematically defensible, every shot is an act of wilful magic.

Anyone listening to 6music and fancies going to see Broken Social Scene in Manchester, alongside Stars and Metric.... I have ticket listed on Twickets. I can't make it. Gutted

The council has signs like this in most towns showing sites of interest to see. A few years ago The Boy and I did the one in the village where we're spoilt for choice with the historic places to see. Today we did Rhyl which is less historically impressive than Rhuddlan but it does have a nice beach.

A mini comic con in the shopping centre in Rhyl today. He refused a photo with the Mario backdrop because "it's obviously AI as it has too much fine detail". There's hope for this generation yet.
