She/they. Sometimes I do conceptual art. Sometimes I don't. Gangster pastor, allegedly. "The only way that we, the small and the ordinary, might survive in any decent way, is if we learn to take care of each other."

The Ontario Government does municipal road design now apparently. "wants bidders to provide plans to “remove or relocate” islands, medians and gutters and “incorporate congestion relief measures at all major intersections to improve traffic flow, such as traffic signal adjustments"

EXCLUSIVE: Inside the contract to rip out Toronto's bike lanes - Spacing Toronto

After the Ontario Court of Appeal (ONCA) shot down CycleTO’s legally innovative charter challenge that sought to stop Doug Ford’s attack on the city’s bike lanes, Queen’s Park wasted little time befor...

I ended up in an elevator yesterday with three people ranting about "twelve year olds being permanently castrated." When I told them that I could testify from direct experience that this does not and cannot happen, they replied, "It happens in New York!" Then I had to get out of the elevator.

"IntegrityTO" is now running ads on Facebook (pushed to *me* of all people) about some anonymous/imaginary dude who asked a cop why he wasn't cracking down on drug use and the cop said he couldn't because "the city has declared drug use a human right." JFC.

I mean, if Canadian consumers had been slipping in their commitment to boycotting US goods, the fact that US food is basically poison now has definitely got things back on track already. (I have seen so much more origin labelling in food stores this month ...)

“The research also found that, while rental housing supply has grown across Canada in recent years, the benefits have not trickled down to those in most need. Rather, the new housing supply has been added to the higher end of the rental market.”

larger implications aside it’s always funny when an LRB piece breaks containment because it’s like a crowd shows up with machetes on your porch and you are. an old Man whittling whistles or making cups out of willow bark

I can't make it to the No Jets TO rally/victory party tomorrow, since they have scheduled it at the same time as church and I have a professional obligation to be at church. But I hope as many people as possible still show up. We all know this could be a fragile victory, and a good showing will help

It's been so long since there's been any kind of good news on any political front, I kind of don't know how to process it. I'm still expecting it to be taken back tomorrow. But it seems that it's real.

I grew up with my mother telling me stories about the sky turning black at noon over Liverpool. Who knew the bad old days would make such an exciting comeback, here in the permanent dusk of smoke-filled Toronto.

Carney's trying a new rhetorical move where he says he wants to know what you're for rather than what you're against and it's like okay I'm *for* normal skies, breathable air, and a habitable planet. Your move Mr. Prime Minister.

Same experience today, but now because of the smoke. Apologies for mentioning this, though, since worrying about climate change is a Trudeau-era fad that we’re supposed to have moved on from.

I’m always reluctant to directly attribute any one weather event to climate change. But Canada’s current fossil-fuel boosterism does hit a bit harder while considering whether we have to keep our 6-year-old home from the baseball camp he’s been excited about, because of potential record heat.
