We need to decisively and collectively demand that every single anti-ICE protester be freed and have their charges dropped - from the Minneapolis 15, the Praireland Defendants, pro-Palestine demonstrators in Michigan, the Spokane 3 - everyone.

From @stopicenet.bsky.social. Community members confronted group of violent ICE agents in Orange County, who shot rubber bullets into the crowd, and injured a minor. When a "community member ask[ed] “You just shot a minor, how do you feel?” The ICE agent laughs and responds, “It felt great.”

Jamo's point about the bylines is the critical indicator here. When the Times decides they really want to juice a story, they assign multiple reporters to it - in this case, NINE - which produces a torrent of articles, which then convinces everyone else in the media that this is a Really Big Deal

I wrote about the New York Times’ multimedia full-court press on the dumb Alaska story — a dozen print, video, audio, and newsletter reports at last count — and the news media’s responsibility to cover things in proportion to their importance. www.findinggravity.net/the-new-york...

At this writing, the New York Times has now run more than a dozen reports on this matter in just three days. The Times is in the kind of full-court press mode it saves for things like Joe Biden stumbling over his words. By my tally, the alleged Peltola maneuver has been a primary subject of six New York Times articles, four New York Times newsletters, a New York Times podcast, a New York Times video, and two letters to the editor the New York Times chose to run. At least nine New York Times journalists have bylines on these pieces. I can only imagine what the Sunday crossword puzzle has in store for us.1
Meanwhile, the New York Times still has not told readers of a new rape allegation against Donald Trump that was made public on Monday in a report the New York Times dishonestly dismissed on grounds that “it largely cites allegations that have already been public.” The word “largely” is doing a awful lot of work in that sentence, given that the report includes a new rape allegation.

at least with old school rat fucking operations, there was some intentionality behind it. now we've outsourced it all to machines that neither known nor care about the difference between truth and falsity, but will confidently spew an infinite number of words about anything you ask it.

I've been shouting for a long time about how LLMs-as-search despoils our information ecosystem, which among other things puts our democracy at risk. Here is a very direct example of that: www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2... >>

Jesus Ochoa was named as one of the agents who killed Alex Pretti, and a CBP “Supply chain security specialist” by that name based in Laredo, Texas is listed in the database, and is in various Laredo-related groups like SG-LAR029A-SEALS with more than 60 other Texas CBP personnel.

list of groups

Regardless of the failings of present LLMs, I find myself increasingly thinking about the proverbial earpiece that offers perfect personal advice and how people use it first on only a few things but increasingly on everything until their brains shrivel away into nothing but relays for the earpiece.

We are an image of the future, we are ecology healing itself, we are the fire which consumes prisons police and whiteness itself, we are the seedlings of a better world and we are already beginning to bloom

Theirs is a movement of terror and suicidal despair, projection and self-delusion, and they can only lose since even winning for them is a living death. But our victories will not simply be experiential and affective, we are going to destroy their world and return this planet to itself in liberation

The good news is that political sorting is such that if you oppose bike lanes you're on the same side as Trump and MAGA. It's rather clarifying and should give some people who otherwise think of themselves as liberals or progressives but who reflexively oppose such things pause.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."
