The BMJ has published a comprehensive new report setting out how the Government consultation on the packaging, appearance and display of tobacco and vaping products was subject to a significant amount of industry lobbying.

Green Party conference just voted in favour of this motion, and this time, in the hall itself, specifically voted against an amendment which would have removed the element about “Zionist Synagogues”. As a result, for most Jews the Green Party will now be considered to have a policy of antisemitism.
Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some further thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 16 hours. Just to address various points which I think people in general should know. A thread:
The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.
New GB News accounts are out. Here are their losses to date. Or "spent political donations" if you prefer

Streatham High Road is where bus priority is needed. It takes 25 minutes to go the couple of miles to Brixton and is relied upon by everyone. Hope that Lambeth and TfL will review these plans and deliver the promised improvements for bus users on the A23.
The proposals for bus priority on Streatham Common North are fixing the wrong problems in the wrong places. - fewer crossings when we need more - even worse cycling infrastructure - nothing for the bottleneck junction with the A23

Big news. Thank you Andy for firing the starting gun on change. So many have campaigned for PR, some of us for decades! Recognise the scale of challenge ahead to make it happen. But a moment to celebrate the work of Make Votes Count/Matter, Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, Compass et al.
💥BREAKING: Andy Burnham announces a National Commission on Electoral Reform. This is a historic moment. The era of First Past the Post is coming to an end. It's time to transform politics and make all votes count. It's time for Proportional Representation.
Burnham: "We don't let people sell food that damages health" Umm, I don't think many people - or even his own Health Dept - would necessarily agree with spirit of that. 10Yr Health Plan recognises need to change current situation: committing to introduce Healthy Food Standards reporting & targets.

The Conservative party recently announced proposals to change the benefit system so that recipients could not use their welfare payments to buy tobacco. Our new blog explains why the best solution is targeted quit support & access to free alternatives for those on low incomes and benefits. 👇
If people on benefits are struggling to quit smoking, then the cost-effective, compassionate solution is cessation support - ASH

The RNLI has said the abuse of volunteers in Portsmouth has forced it to close the lifeboat station there and stop operating since September 10. Nearby stations have been providing cover to the area instead. One of the UK's largest coastal cities without a lifeboat because of the far-right.
