This really exposes one of the flaws in the way air quality levels are reported. DEFRA's system is showing low #AirPollution despite huge peaks across Greater Manchester due to the wildfires. The same peaks in neighbourhoods are missed when people burn wood in their homes. #Health #ToxicAir

I've been doing some analysis on the sensor data. Manchester Piccadilly is about 11 miles from the Dovestone wildfire. Hourly PM2.5 exceeded 100 µg/m³, yet DAQI stayed ‘Low’. Its rolling 24-hour PM2.5 mean smooths away short, severe smoke peaks. The hourly European AQI shows what DAQI misses.

Yesterday, I welcomed over 40 academics, practitioners, and artists to Thackray Museum of Medicine for 'Medicine and the Senses: Past, Present, Future'. It proved to be an absolutely fantastic day full of interactive workshops and compelling (and smelly!) discussion.

My first journal article, "Seeing Stench: Identity and Odour in Seventeenth and Eighteenth-century anti-Scottish Discourse," has been published in a special edition of The Scottish Historical Review! I have such a wonderful time going beyond my PhD research topic and writing about Scotland!
