Personally, I feel attacked by Deresiewicz's assumption that good research does not lead to "serious" teaching. It take my job as scholar and as a teacher pretty seriously. And I most in my community do.

He was such an active and vocal member of the academic and queer community online. He championed early career educators and early career researchers, and supported and encouraged so many people. A tremendous loss.
