Had a great time doing #48HoursNZ over the weekend – both helping my friend with his #film and making my own solo film. I can't wait for the Ōtautahi heats next week! It's so gratifying seeing an audience experience my work, and amazing to see everyone else's films and how talented everyone is.

Where would you rate #NewZealand? +3/+2 for me Voting rights are under pressure, electoral commission under pressure and under funded, media well under the thumb but not under total control #nzpol
Americans are fucked. It may already be too late because people are not organising and taking action. Things will get harder and harder to reverse the longer people fail to act.
What's cool about this week is: 1. I am, for the first time in many years, neither suffering from the effects of severe obstructive sleep apnea nor tied up in endless days of workshops. 2. I'm finally making a dent in my backlog of board commitments. Thank fuck for sleep doctors and CPAP machines.
Ten years ago to the minute I left the cult I was born into, and started a new journey of fabulousness. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I've never regretted it for a moment. I'm so proud of everything I've achieved since then.
I've been living in hope that I might meet Sir Ian McKellen at his (and my) favourite Wellington gay bar while he's here for The Hunt For Gollum. I thought I was leaving a few days too early for it to happen.
I can't wait to attend #Decult2026! Sadly, not all cult survivors can afford to attend this amazing conference, so we would love it if you could donate to the #DecultScholarshipFund. We're aiming to hit $10k this week. @decult.bsky.social
Help us raise $10k for survivors this month
This June, we’re raising NZ$10,000 to help cult-affected New Zealanders who can’t afford to attend Decult 2026.

I'm loving my holiday in Melbourne, I'm loving the trams, but I'm learning all the public transport apps are unreliable. They give stupid suggestions and miss clever tram connections that minimise walking. Better to rely on a human who has the tram network etched on their mind (I met two yesterday).
After 11 years, I've finally managed to convince HM Passport Office that I am in fact a British citizen.
Just discovered this. Great example of the largely untapped power of labellers to improve the quality of online conversations.

Looks like there was an event on at Te Kaha this evening but they're now having their first ever fire drill! #Ōtautahi #Christchurch
Ōtautahi, shut the front door are closing this weekend and have a big sale on - in particular they’ve got some wire baskets that are perfect to be strapped onto bike racks for $15-20
To my non tech normies, PSA: when you share a link, everything after the ? is tracking. Those “query parameters” tell companies exactly how you arrived, what app you clicked, which ad or email sent you, sometimes a unique identifier tied to you. You can delete everything after the question mark.
It was my pleasure to review the dress rehearsal in Ashburton yesterday. Opening night was tonight and it sounds like it went amazingly. #theatre #Ashburton
A curious big little production in Ashburton
It's worth the trip out to Ashburton this weekend to see this dazzling youth production of a much-loved story.

FYI if you’re talking about the #Artemis II mission and you want to get the spaceflight terminology right, the mission is “crewed,” not “manned.” (NASA made the terminology change official decades ago, so this isn’t new, but a lot of folks just aren’t aware.)
Think of a number between 1 and 19. It’s 11. If you got something else, you’re wrong.
Latest tax data is depressing. The economy has stalled and we've got a recessionary wave coming towards us from overseas. Govt and their ghouls think the solution to global volatility and the widening gap between income & expenditure is to reduce spending! Why are they fking idiots? Read on. [🧵 1/n]

School maps in Japan when I lived there had Japan at the centre. Some of my American colleagues never got used to that.
Ever wondered why North is at the top of our maps? If you're assuming there are logical, scientific, Nature-driven reasons for it - yeah, me too. In fact, they're often whimsical, arbitrary or just plain ridiculous! Hold onto your hat. This may turn your world upside-down. 1/

📣Hi folks, Im looking for experts to talk with about the internal logics of the algorithms that shape social media feeds and that drive LLM search results. (I’m thinking Bayesian algorithms in particular). I need folks who can speak conceptually (not just technically) about these internal logics.
#auspol Australian government agencies should remove US software and use open source products. Australian data should only be in secure Australian managed cloud services not in US controlled cloud services.
I made this #gay short #film yesterday as part of 24CHCH26 in #Ōtautahi #Christchurch.

Note to governments, especially the “invisible hand” fanciers: Turns out people really do respond to price signals, and that travel mode is actually elastic, and not just a function of preference…
Cycling in Christchurch has jumped 34% in two weeks as the fuel crisis forces commuters to rethink how they travel.
It was lovely to attend the opening/blessing of Te Kaha One New Zealand Stadium in #Ōtautahi #Christchurch.
