Writer of Pickin' on the Big Ten (2001-2024) and The Sweep (2025-). Does not stick to sports. Jeg vil gjerne ha en kopp kaffe. broomcornsweep.blogspot.com
I have a t-shirt with the Jazz design. It gets a lot of attention.
In 1975, a paper cup design, “Orange and Yellow Flowers,” was unleashed upon the world. While not as well-remembered as the trendy “Jazz” design, it would be a staple in homes and restaurants for decades. www.retroist.com/p/orange-and...

Let's get the 2026 season started. Here is my look at Illinois, a team that would like to evoke the dominant Badger teams of the 2000s, but doesn't quite have all the pieces yet. broomcornsweep.blogspot.com/2026/07/2026...
2026 Preview: Illinois
As literally anyone could have predicted, the Illini came back to Earth a little bit last season once the Schedule Gods withdrew some of t...

i know I'm taking a risk by saying something positive about generative AI on Bluesky but it just did me a solid by generating a funny image it would have taken me HOURS to do. Illinois preview hopefully coming later today!
I'm not putting these on The Sweep, but here are five Big Ten coaching predictions for after this season: 1. Matt Campbell will do no worse than 9-3 in this first season at Penn State. 2. Pat Fitzgerald will do no better than 6-6 in his first season at Michigan State.
I love Bluesky, the website for people who like to make your own point at you, but more pedantically
And now Google doesn't even offer a search engine, but an AI prompt. So much tech capital is way out over its skis right now with AI overinvestment. It's going to be gruesome. In the meantime, though, it'll just keep making everything useless
After getting a COVID conspiracy/denial post from a Russian-paid right-wing propagandist today off the algorithm, I deactivated my Facebook account - it’s just trash run by garbage people.
FB is feeding me posts that are 5-12 days old. YouTube keeps recommending the same videos over and over again no matter how many times I scroll past them. The algorithms are doing the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do. They're making me spend *less* time on the sites.
Hard pass, getting picked last for gym class was bad enough
When you die you should get to learn the names of everyone who's had a crush on you
I am going to spatchcock and oven-roast the Limu Emu.
This year's Sweep previews will feature AI-generated jokes using the prompt "Write an original joke about the _____ football team." I've already generated the jokes. Three of them are terrible, one is acceptable and one is absolutely brilliant.
The Sweep and The Drop are coming back for another season without very many big changes, but I am lowering my guard, letting you know that I keep having to talk myself into this. I'm getting really tired of ESPN's attempts to change college football. broomcornsweep.blogspot.com/2026/07/it-h...

Every time I think about faster-than-light travel -- which is not very often -- I always wonder what would happen if you hit a teeny tiny space rock at 8 times the speed of light. You never see anything about this in sci-fi, but isn't it a real problem?
The kickoff post for season 2 of The Sweep is coming together in my mind. It's hard to ignore the state of sports in general as gambling creeps in everywhere and I'm certainly going to comment on that. But there's another problem that might be bigger. And what could that be ...?
Academic Decathlon back in high school. The English test was over The Great Gatsby and The Sound and the Fury. I got the highest score on that test in the state of Iowa. Never read either book, and to this day I still haven't.
Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?
Seeing what's happened with The Odyssey, I feel like the time is right for a remake of Rooster Cogburn starring Lena Dunham.
I can't believe it took ESPN this long to find its own annoying main-character-syndrome host, but I guess it didn't work out with Jim Rome back in the 90s. Cue the Jim Everett clip.
ah.

Here’s hoping - we won’t survive this year without more TF subscribers however. Spread the word
Fark will outlive most of the modern internet and maybe even cockroaches
Absolutely unreal. I can't think of the last time I enjoyed a game so much when I didn't care at all who won.
