MLF

"Welcome the Stranger."

It is far too easy for those in a position of privilege to judge the actions of others through the lens of that privilege, supporting laws and rules the protect it while vilifying those who don't have it. Honor is not to blindly follow rules, but to see them for what they are, and who they benefit.

THIS. People educated enough in the specific subject to pull the data together don’t need LLMs; people without the knowledge to weed data from the bullshit are at the mercy of the LLM. They’re obsequious Dunning-Kruger machines. Designed to flatter midwits and the technologically obsolete.

So, ok, a thing about telling yr audience "i use AI for my info gathering/research but then I look over it and fix any errors" is that you unfortunately told me youve outsourced your knowledge base on this subject to the machine, and therefore I have no reason to believe you CAN catch those errors

I will reiterate: Christians in the West evangelize in public for the same reason men catcall. Neither is trying to persuade you; both are reminding you that the public sphere belongs to them and you exist in it at their sufferance.

"Japan is just tightening its lax immigration policies!" Japan's foreign resident population is only 3.4% of its total population and the lowest of any G7 nation already, what lax immigration policies lol

So the lesson of the Iran War is that technological superiority and military supremacy doesn't necessarily translate into true military success? Sorry, kids, but that's been the lesson of 80% of military conflicts since 1945.

Humility is confidence. Conceding a point in debate, or acknowledging that an assumption might have been wrong, or admitting ignorance on a given topic, or offering to learn more and rethink a position, are not signs of weakness but of strength and security. The blowhards always miss this.

It is striking how Republicans are more interested in cultural issues than economic issues. They’d rather go broke than allow transgenders to exist, or God forbid participate in sports of the opposite sex. They also love conspiracy theories of any sort. Pathetic.

13. Hence our dismal conclusion: rather than finding that LLMs free us to do a better job of what we were doing before they came along, they shift scientific incentives (and the playing field of academic competition) in ways that compel us to do more and more, faster and faster, less and less well.

In violent reaction to the reconfiguration of society into treating women and people of color as equals. It is a desperate, ferocious clinging to what they feel should be a higher status in a 'natural' hierarchy. Because the alternative is the terrifying prospect of being judged by what they do.
