Invasive species do become part of nature. The problem is what nature becomes. It is rarely a one-for-one exchange. A single invasive species can eliminate many native species. The result is a fading echo of nature.

Sad but not surprising. Few conservation strategies are aimed at insects, which in turn provide food for birds. They are also often underfunded and poorly implemented. We simply must do better to tackle biodiversity loss, we have the knowledge to do a lot better @europebutterfly.bsky.social

Absolutely. This year, we've found BHS larvae using UV in blackthorn and adults feeding on honeydew on oak in the nature area I help manage in SW London. Eggs have been found in Cherry Plum at Ham nearby, which also has White Letter Hairstreak. Also plenty of Purples, and this year, lots of Greens.
