I was a little surprised by how much this bothered me, tbh. Not because I thought it was intentional or even human carelessness- it's a reminder that these algorithms work against difference, they work against outliers, they work against marginalia (literal & figurative). This essay is SO GOOD. As someone who grew up making homes in sci-fi and fantasy worlds (and still does!), it has been so revealing to watch tech billionaire creeps appropriate the trappings of those worlds while willfully ignoring the deeper stories about freedom and power that their creators told.

I dunno man. If I were a law student of Prof. Wurman's at UMinn Law... I'd be asking for my money back. What happened wasn't "sue and settle." It was "sue an agency you control & have them provide you a massive economic win as a 'settlement.'" If I can figure that out, so can Wurman

The best story ICE could make up, after 12 hours, is that ICE agents shot someone in the head because they believed the person they shot, who was not accused of any crime, was a different person also not accused of any crime, and so "public safety" required killing them on the spot.

They know they fucked this one up. And it’ll be up to state and local prosecutors—not the feds—to make the case

Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.
