As a library student, I realized this about myself. All the adult services displays I’m making lists for are all…heavy. And I could find very little joyous material I knew to make something…fun? I’m trying to read fun books more now but, especially in adult services, that’s a difficult task.

I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?

There’s a whole essay to be written about the theological implications of answering “yes” instead of “Hell no” to these questions in Lamb of God’s outro for “Blacken The Cursed Sun” and I might just write it. (I think that’s like the 5th essay I’ve decided to write in the past week lol)

I will say that being told "not yet" so many times, combined with how long it was going to take to get back in the saddle; I do feel like I failed somehow by getting an M.Div and not being on track for the priesthood, or any ordination, anymore.

Oh hey! A little over a week ago was my two year anniversary of transplantation on the Feast of Mary Magdalene! There’s definitely something to be said for how…theological it feels to be given new life by the death of another. It used to keep me up at night. But again we rise. ❤️ #transplantation

Personal Theological and Religious Freedom ethics clashing with public library ethics is…a brain teaser and I hate it.

The headache I get from "future of libraries" discussions that make library staff out to be fucking superheroes. We aren't. We're human beings who cannot do everything asked of us NOW, much less in these ambitious futures of being everything to everyone. Idk, it's just frustrating.

Fun fact: your local public library is entirely funded by property taxes. A loophole in NC property tax exemptions means that libraries across the states have had to slash budgets. Do with that information and this graph what you will…

This article is grand evidence that the US is just incapable of building social democracy. People telling a mayor to be paid less when she asked what services people want cut when FL advances a law that will cut local gov. Budgets. And then this graph. You will note it tops out at 2.5%.

I’m barely 30 and already tired at like 8 PM every day. I went to a concert a few months ago and was yawning by the time the main act came on at like 9 PM…I want to enjoy things but goodness I’m also tired all the time.

Listening to a Christianity Today podcast (I know, I know...I'm not a fan of them either) about the Satanic Panic and as someone who did a project in Catholic school on how heavy metal was rarely as scary as it seemed to be, this is gonna be interesting. We'll see how far I get before I lose my mind

In writing a play about C.S. Lewis, William Nicholson wrote some of the best words I’ve ever found about literacy and reading. “We read to know that we are not alone.” Just thought we all should hear that.

Doing a children’s book project for class and not being a youth librarian means I pick a classic I loved as a kid. I have my qualms with it theoretically now (the MLK comparison in the author’s note is…not my fav) but it’s still an amazing book!

Am I a bad theologian if I see someone in sports talking about their faith in every interview and even wearing a “Jesus Won” shirt during their warmups on camera and thinking it’s kinda upsetting? We share the same faith but there’s something about that brand of evangelism that grosses me out.
