In the aftermath of 2008 and the start of the Tory decade, austerity was widely pitched as saving pennies now to lower the debt for the benefit of future generations. Well, the kids from back then are adults now and have their own children and we're still doing it.

Sorry but '10 North' really does sound like a third wave coffee shop in the suburbs that charges £8.00 for a slice of banana bread and refuses to serve tap water

Once again I’m begging the London media not to confuse a northern accent with being working class. Also Burnham has nothing to offer the working class Black and Asian and/or trans people. Also the benefits he’s planning to cut mainly go to working people.

It's fundamentally not true that the people in and around Burnham are more working class than the people in and around Ed M. They are literally the same people.

Starmer setting aside time on his last day as PM (and possibly even timing his departure overall) so that his last act would be to attend England's World Cup Final, only for England to not make it so he just like...has a free day now, is the most Starmer thing to ever happen

Working class people in "The North" [of England] are not disenfranchised or impoverished in a special unique way that working class people elsewhere aren't and certainly not in a way that a load of PFI contracts for property speculators will help. It's dog whistle bullshit, frankly.

The filth and media desperately trying to make it seem like a political assassination which only makes any sense if you have an establishment desperate for a reason to crack down on opposition to their awful fuckery. www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

Lindsey Graham got the diarrhea and died. "There was nothing left when he was done," said an aide. "Now we have to try to put the diarrhea back in so we can bury something three dimensional," he added. RFK Jr. is going to give kids in school diarrhea to honor Lindsey Graham and make them stronger.

Just a thought: If you'd spent a little less time planting fake antisenitism smears in the press and taking illegal campaign donations perhaps you'd have been able to prepare to govern in the FOUR YEARS you had in opposition. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

What’s happened here is: somewhere in London, a PR company has a whiteboard with “UK Defence Security Campaign” written above a calendar that has “Tony Blair Times column” in a date in the second week and - under the heading “list of crank wankers we can put on TV/Radio” - are the words “Alan West”.

Lord Alan West yesterday: "Things like welfare.. are unimportant when you lose a war & you have Russian Chechen stormtroopers coming down the street raping women & killing people" Reintroducing the workhouse or Russians raping your mum. They're the only choices, ok.

Regional devolution is good in theory (maybe!?), but hard to see how in practice it won't just mean juicy private contracts but let's be honest this is window dressing. At best this is a Fred Perry polo shirt on a pig of an economy that only serves the rich. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Cannot fucking believe an external 4TB SSD drive that cost me $200 last year is now $1100. Had to check receipts to make sure. They’re really out there trying to keep you from having a PC, phone, or a gaming console so they can have hallucinating, polluting chatbots that drop bombs on kids’ schools.

What is Burnham's thing going to be? Starmer had destroying Labour's base and membership, but now that's gone what's Burnham's plan? Of course, he can carry on the genocide and authoritarianism but you need a thing to give you a teeny bit of air cover at first.

The strategy of our professional political class is to do nothing and use spin to convince the public that they are doing something. Doesn't work. You cannot thread the needle and appeal to racists and non-racists. You cannot please capitalist elites and improve people's lives. Burnham will fail.

After all is said and done, Starmer was just a placeholder, elected to salt the earth after the anticommunist crusade. He happened to have an election fall into his lap due to electoral malaise and a split vote on the Right. Once there, he enacted all of his class's petty-minded authoritarianism.
