Maths teacher in North Wales. Currently in my 11th year.

We have the offer of drop down days for the department over the course of the year. Not really a budget to get speakers in etc. How would you use the time for key stage 3?

Have a couple of very very able mathematicians in year 7 who already know the SOW content. They are on the axiom maths programme. Extension tasks I am finding are still not challenging enough. I don't want them to lose their curiosity!! Which resources would you give them?

@amymayforrester.bsky.social Hi Amy. It sounds like you work in a school similar to mine, with many children from rural backgrounds. I wonder how your school engages these students and motivates them to try in class? We have some who do not see school as important because they have their careers set

How do we teach efficient methods? I have students who automatically go to bus stop for any division, including times table inverses e.g. I had a girl today use bus stop for 24 ÷ 12

Taking over as KS3 lead from Sept. My head is spinning with where to start. Any advice? I've settled on developing retrieval do nows and mapping out the topics that need to be covered.

Tech help please! I want to screen record myself completing a past paper to share with students. Any help? I have access to a drawing tablet. Using a thinkpad laptop.

The biggest short-term teaching problem is ATTENTION. Students who aren't paying attention can't learn. The biggest long-term problem is MEMORY. You can smash out the best lesson ever, but if you don't have a long term memory strategy you're wasting your breath.

#Mathstoday A student absolutely did not believe me when I said algebra was like a mathematical language used across the world. He said there was no way they did this stuff of the Isle of Man.

What advice do you give students starting GCSEs who still don't know their timestables? Are there any apps they can use that aren't patronising?
