We have the offer of drop down days for the department over the course of the year. Not really a budget to get speakers in etc. How would you use the time for key stage 3?

Have a couple of very very able mathematicians in year 7 who already know the SOW content. They are on the axiom maths programme. Extension tasks I am finding are still not challenging enough. I don't want them to lose their curiosity!! Which resources would you give them?

Key vocab! How do you deal with? We have a 'unit vocabulary' sheet that students glue into books and fill in as we go- feels clunky. As a school, we 'drill' vocab every lesson (choral response). @realgeoffbarton.bsky.social Anything out there on how to ensure conversations students are having remain on task? I think this is the biggest challenge for our school in implementing. Very quickly chatter spreads and becomes difficult to track who is and isn't sticking to the task.

The biggest short-term teaching problem is ATTENTION. Students who aren't paying attention can't learn. The biggest long-term problem is MEMORY. You can smash out the best lesson ever, but if you don't have a long term memory strategy you're wasting your breath.
