Building iroh with the amazing folks at number 0 (n0.computer). Generally striving to increase user agency and excited about commons networks. Only works for Canadian CEOs, apparently. Rust, cryptography, CRDTs & more on my feed

Been playing around with @iroh.computer a little bit with the rust docs (still a rust noob). Very impressed and like it a lot! I’ve abandoned so many project ideas over the years because accessing a machine on a home network inbound via IP was just not feasible. Wish I could remember them all.

Routers are lame. We don't need routers. Just connect your devices with ethernet and use IPv6 link local addresses. Or Wifi Direct. Or Wifi Aware. All IPv6 link local addressing. (Every now and then I dream about IPv6 link local addr support in iroh)

📃🐝✨ Excited to share a preprint about BeeKEM, a decentralized / local-first variant of MLS's TreeKEM (group E2EE) that we designed at @inkandswitch.com. Huge thanks to our coauthors for the writeup and empirical analysis — even we were pleasantly surprised by the performance results 📊

Had a fantastic time at @localfirstconf.com. Started off relatively stark with discussions acknowledging the general political instability of our times and how much data sovereignty matters. Ended with an absolutely wild demo of @inkandswitch.com's patchwork project. Lots of good bits in between.

Article of the Week: Solarpunk. This artistic and social movement imagines a brighter, optimistic future where sustainability transforms everyday life. Illustration depicts a futuristic eco-city with green rooftops, waterways, modern buildings, and a blimp in the sky.

Where's Germany in these charts? Nowhere, for two reasons. The nuclear phase-out, obviously, but the country also failed to build renewables at scale, as we keep highlighting. Germany's status in people's (incl. many Germans') minds as renewables champion is a decade out of date.

A small ask from the local-first community. I’m speaking at @localfirstconf.com in Berlin about @tiles.run, but this year the conference isn't able to cover speaker travel. I'm trying to raise $700 through Github Sponsors to cover my flight. Any amount helps. github.com/sponsors/til...

New contributions often take more effort to review than to just build myself. As a maintainer, I know the project's goals, context, process and the other maintainers much better than a new contributor. In the past it seemed worth to get these contributions in *under the name of the contributor*.
