Every once and awhile I try to listen to Hollyrood Sources to hear what wonks think about Scottish politics. This time they were extolling the virtues of billionaires. No thanks. I don't need that in my life.

Raoul Vaneigem died a few days ago. Since last night I've been deep in the paint of his work. He's someone I have profound disagreements with, but also he was a real one. "We have a world of pleasures to win, and nothing to lose but boredom."

ScotWind should be seen as a defining failure of successive SNP administrations (and Green supporters) who insisted it would be formative to Scotland’s reindustrialisation. Reports of £6 billion less activity than expected is only the latest confirmation.

We're on day 11 of the fire in the Cairngorms. Scotland has lost so much habitat. People at Nethy Bridge have lost homes. Meanwhile, the UK government keeps floating the idea of more drilling.

Fighting the fire in the cairngorms

I was out here on the anti-fascist side this morning. It was a straight clown show. A guy walking around in toy armour, complaints from the fascists that they couldn't hear their speakers, nazi salutes, some guy showed us his bum. Very serious people.

The amount of stories about drilling in the North Sea is wild. Before Rosebank and Jackdaw can be decided upon, the consultation and impact assessments have to be finished. This won't happen until August 10 (Later for Rosebank) Until then, this is a trial balloon! So, tell your MPs it sucks.

Let's be absolutely clear: there is no amount of new drilling in the North Sea that Burnham could approve which would be consistent with our climate goals. If we are to avoid complete climate breakdown, we need to turn all effort to clean renewable energy - not doubling down on dirty fossil fuels.

🚨 PROFITS SOAR, BUT WHO BENEFITS? 🚨 Iberdrola / Scottish Power: 2026 Net Profit: €4.34BN (+22%) Q2 Net Profit: €1.70BN Overseas energy companies get huge returns, while our communities are left behind with only scraps. Enough is enough. Time for public and community ownership. ⚡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The image features large text stating, "Scottish Wind, Spanish Profits." Below, it mentions Iberdrola, Scottish Power's parent company, earning €4.34 billion in profits in 2026 and questions why Scotland isn’t benefiting from its own renewables. A wind turbine with the Iberdrola logo is pictured in the background.
