There is limited electoral benefit to ditching net zero, and much more potential harm. The same applies to new oil and gas. Most people can see through the claims of vested interests, and understand the truth: new oil and gas will keep us at the mercy of volatile, high prices and a burning planet.

Climate change - driven by fossil fuels - creates the extreme weather conditions that make these fires more likely & more dangerous. Anyone calling for more oil drilling, is calling for more fires in Scotland.

Great to see Burnham's new £2 bus fare cap. Now we need this delivered in Scotland, as a step towards free bus travel & public control. But we wholly object to funding this from the Energy Security budget & global climate justice. Taxes should be reformed so that big polluters fund climate action!
We welcome the appointment of Miatta Fahnbulleh as Sec State for Energy Security and further progress towards clean, home-grown energy. Cutting VAT on electricity bills is a good start, but breaking the link with the volatile gas market is essential for lower, stable bills long term. #breakthelink
And please, @andyburnham.bsky.social , either retain Ed Miliband as Energy Secretary, or make him Chancellor. Workers, communities & businesses need policy certainty on the energy transition. It must be fair, fast and properly funded. Please act to be on the right side of history. 🙏
