What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

This is an outstanding refutation of PM Carney's double-speak on proposed Canada Labour Code amendments, from Colleen Bauman and Mark Rowlinson: www.thestar.com/opinion/cont.... Previous misuse of Section 107 would be codified & routinized, even though it's still facing court challenges. #canlab

Mark Carney says he’s protecting Canadian workers. It’s Orwellian doublespeak

Subject to ministerial review, the right to strike is likely to be much weakened by Bill C-39.

Can anyone smarter than me explain how the government aims to create new pre-strike binding mediation legislation (which essentially removes striking as an active tool), yet claims that it will "never interfere with a worker’s right to bargain or to strike?" Because this seems, uh, bad!

Multiple industry and labour sources tell CTV News they have been told to get ready for the introduction of significant labour legislation as soon as next week. A senior government source says plans are underway to introduce such legislation following a review of the Canadian Labour Code.

when i worked at sbux in high school they kept scheduling me for like 35 hours a week and i kept saying i can't work this schedule i have to go to school. turned out they were hugely overscheduling kids to avoid giving enough hours to the adults that they would've qualified for health insurance

Help me find Alexandra who wrote me the loveliest note in 2017 when she was ten! That note really cheered me up on a particularly tough day. Clue: she was a member of the 12th Toronto Girl Guides and likes turtles!

In 2014, London Ontario residents threw out one of the most councils in Ontario history. [Mayor Joe Fontana resigned after being convicted of fraud from his time as a MP] Two of the Fontana 8 are running this year, hoping nobody remembers the past Unbelievable #onmuni lfpress.com/news/local-n...

One divisive city council era. Two would-be comebacks. Will London voters care?

Two members of the so-called Fontana 8 voting bloc from nearly a generation ago are trying to win back their old seats in the fall civic election.

Glad to find out I’m not 100% super-mega-weird for thinking, when I first heard this news earlier today, that this would be a grand occasion for Canada to “do that @doctorow.pluralistic.net stuff”… (y’know, that STUFF)

Craig Cheslog@craigcheslog.com · 2mo ago

It's time for Canada to follow @doctorow.pluralistic.net's advice and repeal their anti-circumvention law. This asshat of a trade representative won't know what hit him. pluralistic.net/2026/01/29/p...

Turns out the ‘deal’ with Canada that Trump (not Carney) announced the other night was no more real than the 14 ‘deals’ he’s announced with Iran, or the dozens of others he trumpets with no underpinnings. He’s shown he’s desperate to proclaim a victory with someone, anyone. /2

I think, with a fair amount of regularity, that in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, while Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Chris Hitchens were all writing screeds one-handed about how Islam was incompatible with civilization, Gould simply got in his car and drove down to NYC and started helping.

Strongly recommend this excellent passage from the intro to The Mismeasure of Man's second edition on the cyclical surge to popularity of interest in race science. I actually forgot what a great writer Gould was

The opposition in Quebec is going to be enormously consequential. If this deal does, indeed, hinge on American booze returning to the shelves, and the deal leaves in place substantial aluminum tariffs, *and* in gives up our ability to regulate tech? It's going to be tough to sell that.
