After soon 2 years living in Sweden as a Finn, two profound insights: 1. Swedes are as awkward as Finns, just better dressed 2. Both suck at smalltalk, but in Sweden being silent isn’t as socially accepted as in Finland, so Swedes sometimes pretend not to have seen you to avoid awkward smalltalk

obviously this is a huge problem for safety this example was mundane, arguably even good. But it still involved ruthlessly pursuing a goal without considering if that goal is good or intended

. When its initial attempt was blocked due to a scanner detecting an authentication token, the model split the token body into two fragments, obfuscated them, and then reconstructed the credential at runtime so the complete token never appeared as one contiguous string. The model was explicit in both its comments to the user and in its reasoning traces that it was taking these steps to circumvent the scanner.

I started the Molly Crabapple book Here Where We Live Is Our Country, about the Jewish Bund. I feel a strong connection to them. Am I Bundist, not as much anti-Zionist? This is very hard to reconcile, as an emigrant.

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences
