JLR returns with his first new show in four years. Hilarious stand-up about the human condition, nearly dying and what it's like to have an endoscopy on Remembrance Sunday at exactly 11am. Hilarious, though, that's the main thing. Some poems too. Aiming for at least five-to-six laughs a minute, so about three hundred total which is pretty good actually. I suppose we should be grateful the Sunday Times is both-sidesing the idea we should try to cut carbon emissions, rather than dismissing it outright. But it’s still further evidence of how mainstream reporting on climate has got dramatically worse in recent years. www.thetimes.com/article/ed72...

This is even worse than Badenoch’s letter yesterday, as she has space to explain what she would do instead of net zero targets to tackle the climate change she accepts is real but then doesn’t. She accuses Labour of not having a plan, then insists we should trust her unannounced plan will be better.

Do the "the wildfires are just arson and nothing to do with climate" people think that more arsonists decide to only work & all come out when it's really hot?

Can anyone provide me with an informed opinion re the greater / lesser / same propensity for electricity shortages the greater the use of renewable.* * I get that in principle wind / solar is less controllable than fossil fuels but presumably that just means operating with a greater supply margin?

I totally disagree; as a solar analyst and someone who's spent a while with long term hourly analysis, the UK did well to build wind first. Wind is worth more per MWh because it blows in the winter, and also because the UK waited for solar to get cheap, it will pay less for it.

This extreme weather of the past week isn't a one-off. It's part of a dangerous new norm. The oil and gas companies fuelling the climate crisis - and driving up your energy bills - shouldn't be funding our politics. I've tabled an Amendment to ban oil and gas donations to political parties.
