I think yes to this—and ALSO aesthetic and fascism are inextricably linked. Fascism is arguably even more about aesthetic and spectacle than it is about coherent ideology Which is *not* an argument with this point; “tacky” is indeed missing the larger issue even in terms of engaging with aesthetics

My problem with the White House thunderdome isn’t that it’s “vulgar,” or “tacky,” qualities I often enjoy & terms which are often crudely classist when used pejoratively. My problem, as always, is the fascism. Don’t get distracted by taste, which is deeply subjective; it’s the fascism.

I get the impression that some people aren't clear what this means. This is the UK state deciding to intervene directly in the healthcare of individual children, depriving them of medicine that their doctors have prescribed for their personal health & wellbeing, in defiance of global best practice.

Update: Young people & families today received shocking & transphobic letters from NHS. These letters tell people that endocrine care (blockers / HRT) is being fully withdrawn in 7 weeks time (July 31st). Forced medical detransition. This country is a danger to trans children & young people.

Feel as though people will truly never understand his death. He was killed for being an Indigenous Queer Man with a Transgender Partner. Every single one of those signifiers on axis/intersections/marginalizations is extremely important, but it is in tandem all at once not just because he “Gay”.

We lost Jonathan Joss exactly One Year ago today. A neighbor burned his house, killed his dogs and shot him in the street for being Gay. Never forget Jonathan Joss. #KingOfTheHill #JohnRedcorn

It bears repeating, the "Gender critical" and "Mens Rights Activist" positions are two sides of the same coin. Their advocates share the same essentialised (and therefore violent) conceptions of biological determinism.

This is the way. We do not need to accept the right’s bad-faith and blatantly dishonest caricature of higher education. Colleges and universities regularly platform views across the political spectrum, perhaps more than any other American institution.

“Viewpoint diversity” is a trap For @table.media, I wrote about the Yale report on “Trust in Higher Education” – and why we will not be able to defend academic freedom by accepting the terms set by a rightwing campaign intended to impose reactionary rule. Some thoughts, since it is in German:

The whole argument for “viewpoint diversity” as an academic virtue fundamentally (mis)construes academia as an instrument of brainwashing rather than a site of learning and knowledge-production.

We're getting a wave of articles that are like, "gee willikers it sure seems like the people who complained about 'cancel culture' for years really like canceling people." Yes! This was extremely obvious at the time and a lot of us pointed it out!

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com · 11mo ago

Some say canceling is an act of redress. Others blame it on a mob. “People have used the word ‘cancel’ so loosely,” Ernest Owens author of “The Case for Cancel Culture,” said, “that everyone’s calling everything a cancellation.”

i made a template you can use to think about what "frame/negation/kirby" looks like for other issues. For example: Frame: DOGE is a govt efficiency project to save $ Negation: Actually it made things less efficient and cost $ Kirby: DOGE was a project to break and privatize federal bureaucracy

Top is an empty rectangle with a jagged line in the middle.
The left side is labeled "Frame" "F is happening!"
The right side is labeled "Negation" "F is not true!"
Below is a large image of Kirby, a round pink blob with eyes with a small version of the Frame F shape flying into his mouth. To the right is a large pink rectangle labeled "Kirby" "K is happening, that's why they're saying F"
