📸 Gemeinde Steinbrunn

Yes it seems like there was/is a lot of heat in the pipeline since years... As subsurface ocean heat. This El Niño is NOT ONLY natural variability. It's also a manifestation of accelerated global warming.

I think that by next Tuesday or Wednesday, Austria will likely set a new all-time temperature record (currently still at 40.5 °C). In Hungary and Slovakia, the record highs set as recently as June are already in danger of being broken again. kachelmannwetter.com/de/modellkar... #heat #weather

Here’s the updatet overview of the #temperature extremes during the historic June #heatwave. According to the data (use with caution), new all-time extremes appear to have been reached across much of Central #Europe, while the highest temperatures were recorded across Western Europe.

Temperature extremes during the June 2026 heat wave

Extremly dangerous situation tomorrow for many parts of Germany. On the forward flank of a pronounced short wave trough convection is forecasted to develop in an environment with extreme inverted-V profiles (DCAPE >1000 J/kg). In Europe such profiles are rare to find (dry adiabtic up to 600 hPa!)

Unseren Gletschern stehen schlimme Tage bevor.

Another extreme heatwave is expected to affect Central Europe, particularly the Alpine region, during the second half of next week. The heatwave is likely to be especially persistent across southeastern parts of Central Europe. 🧵 A thread about the reasons for its strength and persistance

As Nahel discusses below, this event was caused by an extreme downslope (foehn) wind event--but that, in turn, was amplified by very warm & moist airmass generating huge snowfalls in high elevation Andes due to record-warm ocean waters in eastern tropical Pacific. #ElNiño

I've never seen anything like it. Salta, Argentina, has just recorded its hottest night on record during the climatologically coldest time of the year. The minimum overnight temperature did not fall below 26°C (78.8°F), pulverizing the previous monthly record by 7°C.

The marine heatwave in the western Mediterranean is continuing and has even intensified in recent days. The spatial average sea surface temperature could reach around 27.7 °C, which is very close to the historical maximum for August 2024.

After three heatwaves since May, we are living in France the worst drought in history! 🔥💧 Soil moisture has reached level unprecedented this early in the summer — exceeding the levels recorded in 1976, 2022, and 2025 on the same date! 📈 Via @MystereMeteo

Drought conditions across Western Europe - the effects of our hot, dry, summer so far These two pics were taken by the Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission ~7 weeks apart. The effects of limited rainfall and hot, clear, weather are clearly visible: Much of Western Europe is looking desert-like from space.

#canicule /LD
