Where I really disagree is the Political claim that opposition to Atlanta's Beltline Rail is rooted in concern for poor people. That ignores the Atlanta Way alliance with capital. It's the same rich carbrain NIMBYs who oppose traffic calming and land use reform, who also block Beltline Rail.
Metro began closing the street to drivers soon after posting this.
A stroad shouldn't be Nashville's main street and tourist attraction. Shut it down to private vehicles and watch spending boom!

Why can't Downtown Atlanta be more like downtown Nashville?

Surprise, the World Cup economic "boom" isn't sustainable.
South Downtown’s $140M building boom slows after Atlanta’s World Cup frenzy
South Downtown has been a whirlwind of construction in recent months to get ready for the World Cup, but it’s about to switch from offense to defense.

I experienced this today. Driver turning left began their turn before allowing me to cross at a traffic signal. I couldn't see their eyes behind the tick A-pillar so they couldn't see me.

$3.5B on truck-only lanes for 41 miles of NB I-75. I wonder how much regional rail metro Atlanta could get for that price? The problem isn't the trucks, it's the passenger vehicles. Interstates were designed for interstate commerce.
good lord I remember the last time this was announced. By Nathan Deal. Who you'll remember was governor like almost 8 years ago #gapol www.freightwaves.com/news/georgia...
Why not just use one of several extra wide streets thru Downtown Atlanta? Piedmont, Courtland, Ted Turner, etc
Ugh. MARTA may have to reroute its new Bus Rapid Transit line for seven days because the City approved a permit for a Red Bull event for Formula 1 cars on Hank Aaron Drive in Summerhill. Obviously, residents are upset as well. 1/2

South Downtown reports it has laid off all 4 PMs and is taking a 1 year pause on projects. Probably "pausing" for the 2028 Super Bowl. This does not look good for continued, sustained growth to transform the area into an actual neighborhood. saportareport.com/sodo-scales-...

Blocking this project is dumb af, when the district is littered with vacant lots. Focus on the vacant lots, that are causing issues in the historic district not a transportation hub.🤦 www.wsbtv.com/news/local/n...

NIMBYs use "historic character" and tree protection to stop more housing units from being built. Landmark District zoning is a double edged sword. It locks in low density, SFH-only housing in perpetuity while also making renovations more difficult for existing property owners.
