Where I really disagree is the Political claim that opposition to Atlanta's Beltline Rail is rooted in concern for poor people. That ignores the Atlanta Way alliance with capital. It's the same rich carbrain NIMBYs who oppose traffic calming and land use reform, who also block Beltline Rail.

$3.5B on truck-only lanes for 41 miles of NB I-75. I wonder how much regional rail metro Atlanta could get for that price? The problem isn't the trucks, it's the passenger vehicles. Interstates were designed for interstate commerce.

good lord I remember the last time this was announced. By Nathan Deal. Who you'll remember was governor like almost 8 years ago #gapol www.freightwaves.com/news/georgia...

South Downtown reports it has laid off all 4 PMs and is taking a 1 year pause on projects. Probably "pausing" for the 2028 Super Bowl. This does not look good for continued, sustained growth to transform the area into an actual neighborhood. saportareport.com/sodo-scales-...

NIMBYs use "historic character" and tree protection to stop more housing units from being built. Landmark District zoning is a double edged sword. It locks in low density, SFH-only housing in perpetuity while also making renovations more difficult for existing property owners.
