Even worse, when the discussion and contextualization of the findings then is only supported with citations to papers all written by people from the global north. I truly can't believe this needs to be said in 2026.
I can't stress enough how disrespectful it is when colleagues in the Global North publish papers about our realities without a single author from the region. It's not "just data." Context matters. Interpreting our realities through your own framework isn't just exclusionary, it's weaker science.

Just published! 📄 We found that seed predation of a non-native conifer increased along a Patagonian precipitation gradient. Predation was higher in open microhabitats at low precipitation and in closed microhabitats at high precipitation, although the pattern depended on temporal context.

The only "positive" effect that the current Hantavirus visibility may have is that may lead funding and attention for this high-fatality virus, which has recurrent outbreaks in Argentina, Chile, and elsewhere. Here doing fieldwork in Patagonia with @nahpo.bsky.social during a Hantavirus outbreak.

Even having this great representation numbers in science, we still see the "scissors" like graphs in our numbers with fewer women occupying the highest position "Investigador superior." It is not great, but this % is higher in Universities (50.9%) and still is higher than the average worldwide.
