bluesky should bring back invite codes very easy to bootstrap trust in new accounts via the social network very easy to prune offending subtrees there are enough users now that it’s not a meaningful throttle on growth
when we decide to make the software good instead of bad it’s so over for the surveillance state
IMHO: Because Likes are (unavoidably) public data on Bluesky, there should be a Likes tab on our profiles as a reminder. Not enough to warn people during onboarding. Friction can be a good thing in many cases but this isn't one of them. Likes feeling private but being public is a UX footgun.
An unordered / non-exhaustive list of things that helped scale Bluesky's infra efficiently: + Exiting the cloud (colocation) + HAProxy w/many Node backends + Go w/clever code + ScyllaDB + SQLite w/per user databases + Redis w/many instances + AMD servers w/many cores + Purchasing bandwidth directly
