Amazon has now auto-enabled Alexa Shopping AI chatbot and it is so fucking annoying. It takes up a third of the screen. There is no way to turn it off, I just have to keep clicking the close button every time I search something. It is so fucking obtrusive and totally unnecessary.

Hell, I'm pretty sure that by most socially-accepted standards, I'm considered a pretty decent guy and I know for a fact there are folks who have spoken ill of me already. I promise not to be mad if they want to keep talking shit after I've become past-tense.

It is my hope that when I die, the world doesn't say a loud "good riddance bitch." I am trying to avoid that fate by *not* being a spectacularly awful person. However, if I do become awful, have at it. aka: Consequences.

forcing myself to not respond to the person who quote-tweeted this to say i'm discounting poor and marginalized people who need to use AI as a free research tool. does it matter if the research tool is free if it's also often completely inaccurate? how is that benefiting the poor & marginalized?

it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t learn how to make clothing. I’m saying repairing clothing is actually what’s going to save you money. Hi, I’m Anna, I have gotten quoted out of context (again), and I used to make historical garments and costume pieces. I sewed a lot.
