I opened Facebook so that I could go to FBMP (only legitimate reason) and saw a post complaining about 20 mph school zones and calling it a "cash grab". 80 comments in agreement. "Teach your kids to look both ways!" Is this one of those times where posting could ACTUALLY be praxis? Do I wade in?

One of my professional opinions that often gets me grief is that the Internet Archive, a crucial org and necessary layer of redundancy/access for many of us, should not be treated as a central load-bearing digital preservation service for institutions that should invest in their own infrastructure.

Deeply grateful for this. "Tilde webpages" will live in my brain forever as the apotheosis of the scholarly web.

Nationalize all archives. Turn the local historical society into the community archives, pay everyone a professional wage, and require accreditation.

I am a for-real archives standards person but a fake library standards person. Did we know that LC has a vocabulary of demographic terms and it includes ethnicities??? id.loc.gov/search/?q=me...

my hot take re: librarianship is that the copyright system as currently defined already has many, many, many defenders, a great many of them very well resourced, and it's unnecessary for us as a profession to defend it stringently as well.

I always wonder - usually in vain - just how big auction houses determine provenance information. Thanks to the Epstein Files, we can see exactly how a seemingly rock-solid provenance was built on shifting sands for this Hercules. 🧵
