Just yesterday I was listening to a v good tour guide explaining the economic transformation in Korea that followed Gangnam style - one song! Arts (and heritage) have a huge economic footprint and that still seems to be a mystery to UK politicians, who don’t know our own strengths.

So farewell then, Seoul, and Korea. I had a blast at #DH2026 and after (altho you are as hot as a furnace!) Friendly people, great food, and lots of K-culture to explore. Good times. Now homeward!

As I look back on #DH2026, I keep returning to the memorial table we prepared for Professor Natsuko Yoshiga. Amid a week filled with learning, friendship, and joy, we also shared a profound loss. Her passing will stay with us for a long time. May she rest in peace.

Last day in Korea. Over 40 degrees… but I had a bus trip with air con booked up to the De-Militarized Zone/ North Korean border. Our tour guide was excellent and contextualised a lot of complex history, bringing the human cost of the war - and the separation - into focus. It was fascinating- & sad.

Then over to the National Museum of Korea, for a chat with the digital team and a pop round some highlights. A gorgeous, modern, well-equipped and teched-up museum (check out the robot tour guide!)- hugely popular too. & I saw the 18th c Moon Jar! 😻

Fab tour behind the scenes at the National Library of Korea, today. Lots of chat re legal deposit and digitisation - and their users. They’ve quite clearly put serious recent investment into the digital library in a way we in the UK just… haven’t?

So yesterday/today has been the hottest ever day recorded in the Seoul region of Korea. I can believe it. Give me a salt lick and a bucket of ice water… at least there is air con everywhere, but this is not quite the trip I had planned… will be thankful to return to temperate Scotland!

Loving that they chose reflector-cased surveillance cameras for the temple so they blend in with the historical rooflines. You’ll never know when the deities are watching etc etc #Seoul #Korea

Made it to the Seoul flea market! My happy place to browse and learn about cultures and trends and fashions - and get a little chat in with stall holders, even if we have to mime. Super interesting mix of Korean, US, and other Asian objects (as you’d expect). V hot - I lasted 30 mins but 😊

For the past week at #dh2026 we’ve watched people queue for hours in a heatwave to get into the very viral Sungsimdang Cake Boutique in #Daejeon As the conference ended I walked past and at 7pm there was no queue! A fab way to end the week. Can report the chocolate cake was 🤤

The last week, I have found myself actually laughing at AI generated songs mimed by comic content creators: carefully written, funny bops. Interesting moment. BUT There's also a whole lot of white content creators miming to AI generated black-coded gospel-style songs. AI Digital Blackface? 😒 Sigh.

Last year, Kizik and a patent holding company sued Skechers for design patent infringement. Last week, Skechers filed an petition for inter partes review (IPR2026-00444) against the patent, citing--among other things--ancient Roman footwear as prior art.
