It's insane how many people don't know anything about Myst. Myst is the reason we started used discs for computer games, and the game that made mainstream culture start considering video games to be art. It is like more significant to video game history than any film was to film history.

i think one of the biggest underlinings in just how bad the western industry has been about its own legacy is like. myst isnt just an old game. it was final fantasy vii before final fantasy vii. it was that fucking huge.

Earlier this year when I was in Spokane, the @cyan.com crew was kind enough to give me a tour of their gorgeous office - the same building Riven was created in - and allow me to play this vertical slice. It's so, so excellent, and it's so sad it's unlikely to ever come out.
