Today, I built my first web page with the static site generator Hugo and was amazed by its flexibility. For example, adding a custom shortcode to draw inline Mermaid graphs from markdown took me 10 minutes.

Buying ice skates the moment our lakes freeze is excellent timing 🤦‍♂️. The store is empty, folks are lining up, and there is only one expensive model left. Luckily, they are my size. There is no way around it; the kids need entertainment. ⛸️

The winter downtime reading hattrick is done by rereading a book every software engineer should know: Philosophy of Software Design by John Ousterhout. It's a concise journey with practical advice on reducing software complexity. I ended up with more notes than the publisher allowed 🙃.
