Somewhere along the way, we've shifted from storytelling to elaborate descriptive narration. Like a movie is just an inefficient way of doing the plot summary of that movie.

Doctor Who book club rambler (The Hamster Book Club). Escaped journalist. “Welsh”. All this and great hair too.
My Welsh is rustier than it should be but I’ll be sticking this on to help me brush up (I can never remember “escape pod” and it has caused embarrassment at parties). It’s also reminded me of @cooraysmith.bsky.social idea to do A Morbid Taste for Bones as folk horror and largely in Welsh.
Reading about the Welsh Star Wars translation for a podcast tomorrow and felt... oddly moved by it? Despite being neither a Star Wars fan nor Welsh?
DC Compact really is the most pro-consumer thing to have happened to comics in a long old time.

'Go to hell' is basic. 'I hope a thing you liked as a child gets a Dynamite comic' is smart. It's possible. It's terrifying.
I always got “moved to a new parish” vibes from John Tracy.
Stupid sexy France with its stupid sexy independent nuclear capability.
Went to a press screening of this. Asked by a PR on the way out what I thought, I said “I liked the bit… in space.”
It's been far too long since we've screened GRAVITY. Alfonso Cuarón's breathtaking space survival thriller returns to the PCC next Mon 10th Aug at 6pm in our downstairs screen, as part of SPACE DAY. 🎟️: buff.ly/stRQI4t

A version of this crops up in criticism too. “Writer/director X must have seen/read this much more obscure thing”. Or did two people operating in the same cultural context come up with a couple of the same ideas? (The most annoying thing being claiming plagiarism is much less interesting!)
I've had so many instances where ideas I've come up with have turned up in other works, and it's always been simply because they were sufficiently zeitgeisty that someone else came up with them independently.

‘THE ODYSSEY’ is now tracking to pass $1 billion worldwide in its box office run. It is expected to become Christopher Nolan's highest grossing film ever.
If you’re going to see The Odyssey remember to stay to the end of the credits when Ra tells Telemachus he’s putting a oh god this joke was old when I made it about the 2012 Olympics.
“If you ask me, they’re burrowing right down to the Earth’s core.” Well, I didn’t, and what an odd thing to say.

Someday somebody’s going to do an epic TV series about the Beatles and the best episode will be the one about Jimmie Nichol.
