Doctor Who book club rambler (The Hamster Book Club). Escaped journalist. “Welsh”. All this and great hair too.

My Welsh is rustier than it should be but I’ll be sticking this on to help me brush up (I can never remember “escape pod” and it has caused embarrassment at parties). It’s also reminded me of @cooraysmith.bsky.social idea to do A Morbid Taste for Bones as folk horror and largely in Welsh.

Reading about the Welsh Star Wars translation for a podcast tomorrow and felt... oddly moved by it? Despite being neither a Star Wars fan nor Welsh?

A version of this crops up in criticism too. “Writer/director X must have seen/read this much more obscure thing”. Or did two people operating in the same cultural context come up with a couple of the same ideas? (The most annoying thing being claiming plagiarism is much less interesting!)

I've had so many instances where ideas I've come up with have turned up in other works, and it's always been simply because they were sufficiently zeitgeisty that someone else came up with them independently.
