Hard to say - both suck but also both have benefits. But the 1st article I sent after my viva was rejected from a mediocre journal with devastating critique that I completely agreed with and that was at the core of my insecurities about the piece. Revised, sent to a better journal, published.

One hundred per cent this. Just an opportunist for nastiness, and all of its value was that it was "shocking" and therefore a display of independence and daring on the media's part.
I choose not to use the occasion of someone’s death to celebrate cause I don’t want to become that kind of person, but if anyone wants to create some kind of hagiography of Liddle, and we know people will, and we probably know who they are, they should expect people to present them with his writing.
Rod Liddle was an Islamophobe and crossed the street to be unkind in his columns. His is not the sort of journalism I admire.
It's a small thing, I know, but there really is a difference between "palate cleanser" and "palette cleanser," and also, while we are on the subject, "pallet cleanser," and it is worth making the distinction

This is an important note concerning activism. Sometimes there are consequences, and knowing what they will be and persisting anyways to shame the system that insists on those consequences is a significant act.
