Feminist advocacy is essential for civilian protection in Ukraine

🚨Working with @megandaigle.bsky.social & Leen we combined @aligngender.bsky.social expertise on norms & @odi.global expertise on #humanitarian protection to make a clear case for continued & improved gender analysis at this dangerous political moment of anti-gender mobilizations & aid cuts. More 👇

#Gender is being sidelined in humanitarian efforts. Our latest paper urges a rethink amidst the ongoing humanitarian reset – calling for more inclusive, nuanced responses that challenge outdated gender norms in crisis settings. Read on ➡️ bit.ly/3GEpDEV

💡Observing #HRC59 was a very insightful experience. Helped me understand better how diplomats try to navigate anti #gender politics, funding cuts to the UN, & crisis of international #humanrights law. Many 🙏 to all who helped us in this phase of our @odi.global research as we move on to the next!

The 59th UN Human Rights Council wrapped this week bringing tough but vital wins for #GenderEquality. From women in sport to #FGM to economic rights, resolutions passed reflect progress and deep divides over language on #bodilyautonomy and #intersectionality. 🔗 More via ALIGN: lnkd.in/eEPep5sp

It's kinda concerning that Ofcom, who we rely on to regulate internet companies in the UK, have published this. The only way we have overestimated the risk of the manosphere, is if we have underestimated the risk of patriarchal norms in society more broadly... www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Society may have overestimated risk of the ‘manosphere’, UK researchers say

In the piece, we discuss how groups opposing gender-affirming care have used the Cass report to relativise the evidence around suicide while advocating for harmful restrictions or banning access to this vital care. The report and its political misuses have had a damaging impact in Chile 👇

Plus, here's one I added a couple of months back: "Gender affirmation and evidence around suicide: Contributions to public debate" Paper for Sexuality Policy Watch by Dr Tomás Ojeda and colleagues. A Chilean perspective on the global impact of the Cass Review. sxpolitics.org/wp-content/u...

What is the scope of the report and what are its main recommendations? The report is a document of interest to all those working in the field of health and human rights. It should be read keeping in mind how it originated and the local ‘diagnostics’ to which it seeks to respond. The report, however, is not a clinical guideline or a working manual.
Unlike the systematic reviews from which it draws its conclusions, the report is not a scientific publication and was not submitted to a peer-reviewed journal. Furthermore, it does not produce new evidence or find any evidence of harm caused by social transition and the use of medical treatments such as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.

The Cass review concludes that the level of certainty we have about the effects and benefits of using masculinising/feminising hormones and puberty blockers is ‘low’. This does not mean that the evidence is bad or that the interventions are harmful. That the evidence is of ‘low quality’ means that it is not possible to establish causal relationships between benefits and interventions. In this regard, it is worth mentioning
that there are interventions in paediatric medicine that continue to be implemented with ‘low’ levels of certainty, as is the evidence for the use of puberty blockers for cisgender children with precocious puberty. Despite the ‘low’ evidence, we do not stop practising them.

We are alarmed by the #Meta moderation policy changes announced yesterday, allowing dehumanising language targeting #LGBTI people. This threatens safety and dignity. We urge the EU to enforce the Digital Services Act to combat hate speech and misinformation. Hatred has no place online or anywhere.
