Trump govt offers grants of $500,000 to change UK politics. Foreign money for right wing groups. Disguised as “public education” it promotes MAGA propaganda on abortion, regulation, hate speech, climate change, diversity and more. Is UK the 51st state?

I went to Paris to speak to Thomas Piketty - one of the world’s leading thinkers on inequality. We talk about why wealth keeps concentrating at the top, the case for public investment, and what it would take to build a fairer economy. A fascinating conversation. youtu.be/d_83pFubGvQ?...

The petition for a televised emergency briefing just passed 50,000. Thanks for your help. What if everyone who’s signed it asks one other friend or family member to do so…. 🙏 petition.parliament.uk/petitions/76... #NationalEmergencyBriefing #TimeToStepUp
Maybe vertical drinking is a crucial aspect of British life, and it's appropriate for Downing Street to intervene. In the meantime, however, Number 10's howling silence about the climate emergency - amidst drought, fire and crop failure - continues. #Priorities www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

"The right to protest is fundamental to our democracy". As long as the protest is not about Palestine, climate or any other issue that major lobbyists want to shut down. If you're protesting about asylum seekers, on the other hand, your concerns are legitimate, and we're making policy in response.
This is a really inadequate Home Office statement in these circumstancds It empathises with this protest as expressing legitimate concerns, singles out violence against police, and simply fails to say "violence threatening asylum seekers, migrants & other minorities is shocking + wrong"

There now follows a party election broadcast by the Count Binface Party, And if I do say so myself, it's a banger. #VoteBinface #Clacton
Heat & drought records keep falling. Reform promote denial. The Tories want to ditch our targets. The new PM still hasn't said a word. Such a relief to hear a politician actually name it. Should be ordinary. End the #climate hushing! Thanks for your #ClimateLeadership @zackpolanski.bsky.social

Today is the day the story There Will Come Soft Rain is set. An amazing and heartbreaking work of fiction for our modern age. Read it here:

A first year above 2C in the mid-2030s now looks plausible. 0.5C was first passed in 1980, 1.0C in 2010 and 1.5C in 2024. The 15-year trend runs at 0.42C per decade. The 2026 and 2027 points for the current El Nino are estimates. We're not remotely ready!
Stick to spending limits, PM and chancellor tell ministers in joint memo. Cue for real cuts; continuation of potholed roads, housing crisis, NHS queues, unfit schools, privatisations? Real change not possible whilst neoliberalism remains the opium of the political class.
John Healey and Andy Burnham urge ministers to stick to spending limits in joint Budget memo
The Chancellor said the Budget on 28 October would “meet our fiscal rules” and give families "stability" to plan for the future.

Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"
I really need everyone to remember that the fossil fuel industry knew-knows exactly the climate hell we now inhabit, and are determined to make it FAR worse. That's because they have decided our lives are worth far less than their profits. We are not angry -or organised- enough.
Just sitting on the pavement and clapping is now terrorism. Not saying anything, not holding or displaying any signs, just sitting on the pavement & clapping. Andy Burnham can stop this. But he isn't. Reporting by Steven Methven for @novaramedia.com
Overnight, a masked bandit broke into our kitchen. Armed with opposable thumbs, he proceeded to sample everything on offer. I’d just visited the farmers market, so the menu was extensive. I can now share a highly specific peer-reviewed list of what this particular raider did & did not enjoy. 🧵

City gears up for a fight bank tax under Burnham. Can't recall bankers fighting bailouts, £895bn quantitative easing, hidden subsidies, branch closures, lousy return on savings, profiteering, gambling. It is one-way traffic in the self-interest train.
