Anania crocealis & Adaina microdactyla the best of the nfy in Ashurst, New Forest this morning, the latter incredibly tiny & delicate. Aroga velocella also nfy, & 1 Vestal, 1 amplana the best of the sparse migrants #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Landguard bird Observatory this morning little bird wise but it was pleasing to see 2 of the 3 Spurge Hawkmoths and best a Striped Hawkmoth. At Marsh Lane Felixstowe 3 Southern migrant Hawkers were patrolling along the track with 1 Brown Hawker 1 Southern Hawker and several Ruddy Darters seen
Just two nights ago our all time largest catch of Small Mottled Willows saw the 500 mark exceeded, last night that was more than doubled to 1007 - barmy times! Busy traps for everything else as well last night incl obvious arrivals of Diamond-backs and Beet Moths; 9 Small & a Purple Marbled of note
A new species for me at my inland site last night, the tiny little Phalonidia manniana or Water Mint Straw. A decent night at home, but this pristine Ni Moth deserved a photo. Also this diminutive Leafhopper, Zygina flammigera (I think....) in the trap.
My Whetstone garden trap avoided Small Mottled Willow from 1999 to 2024, before one finally turned up here in 2025. One record, of one individual, in 27 years. During 2026 I have many records of multiple individuals, fewer than other recorders but still enough to be laughable. #vc55moths #teammoth

Ok, maybe it is the new normal…Scarce Bordered and an absolutely mint Eastern Bordered Straw to my Hailsham garden MV last night plus a potential Mompha sturnipennella #TeamMoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
A nice mix of migrants amongst the 222/88 in the Upton garden traps this morning, incl'g Ni Moth, a striking Small Marbled, Vestal, Bordered Straw, Turnip Moth, 4 SM Willow, 11 Silver Y, 6 RDP, 6 Rush Veneer, Diamondback & Euro Corn-borer #TeamMoth @dorsetmoths.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social

@migrantmothuk.bsky.social Palpita Vitrealis and a couple of Small Mottled Willow in Didcot Oxfordshire Sunday/Monday
Last night, I went out to check on the trap and noticed the Ancylosis oblitella NFG, which I had released earlier in the day, feeding on Tansy. It's a rare moth where I live and possibly a migrant, according to Yorkshire Moths. #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
The Vestal (Rhodometra sacraria) In my Bournemouth garden last night. #TeamMoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Plenty of box fresh migrants in the St Mellion moth traps, which are probably locally bred - 1 Palpita vitrealis, 19 Nomophila noctuella, 14 Udea ferrugalis, 10 Dark Sword-grass, 2 Cosmopolitan, 1 Scarce Bordered Straw, 71 Small Mottled Willow, 36 Silver Y & 1 Ni Moth. #teammoth
Small Mottled Willows back up to 17 last night, along with 2 Rusty-dots and 2 locally-oddly-scarce Wax Moths #salopmoths #teammoth #vc40 @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Amongst a generally reduced moth catch on a noticeably fresher night there one or two hints at new arrivals showing up, notably a Toadflax Pearl (...much prefer the former vernacular, Spanish Dot!) catalaunalis at the Obs & a Golden Twin-spot (seemingly not yet established on Portland) at the Grove
Accidentally deleted the earlier post🙄 Blastobasis glandulella (Hants 1st, UK 3rd) from May here in SW Hants. Confirmed this weekend by gendet, thanks to Peter Hall, via @wheatersdave.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social #teammoth
REPORT: Long-tailed Blue, 1st Aug 2026. Holland-on-Sea, Essex. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @ukbutterflies.bsky.social @jamescbr.bsky.social
A nicely marked Scarce Bordered Straw (Helicoverpa armigera) in the trap this morning. My second for the year in Bournemouth. #TeamMoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
A better shot of the Ni Moth. I didn't get much of a chance to photograph him the first time around because he was so lively. And he wasn’t much better this time round either! A NFY Dark Sword-grass was the only other tick from the trap this morning. #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Obs moth-traps ticking over overnight with 5 Striped Hawks and a Cosmopolitan the best of the 'migrants'; dispersers incl the second Obs record of Streaked Ridge-back falciformis, whilst elsewhere a Lobster Moth for John Lucas at Southwell was only the fourth for the island
My third Ni Moth (Trichoplusia ni) ever and for the year. Attracted to light in Bournemouth last night. #TeamMoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Vestal (Rhodometra sacraria) x2 & Cydia amplana in Bengeo on Wednesday night. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social @bc-hertsmiddx.bsky.social #teammoth
Freshwater Bay @portlandbirdobs.bsky.social last night gave Cosmopolitan (2), Ni (2), Vestal (2), Striped HM (2), Eastern Bordered Straw (1), Scarce BS (2), Bordered Straw (6), Jersey Mocha (1), Small Marbled (1), this would have been remarkable a year ago, but not now @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Ypsolopha sequella is a regular in Ashurst, New Forest, but always great to see. 2 amplana, 1 Vestal & 7 Small Mottled Willow the best of the migrants for me #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
A quick 1 hour session with the moth traps yesterday evening in St Mellion: 1 Plutella xylostella (Diamond-back) 8 Nomophila noctuella (Rush Veneer) 9 Udea ferrugalis (Rusty-dot) 1 Vestal 4 Dark Sword-grass 1 Cosmopolitan: these are probably locally bred 21 Small Mottled Willow 22 Silver Y #teammoth
Quieter on the moth front overnight with no particular highlights amongst the Obs garden catch - kinda extraordinary that you can get so blasé when the totals incl 255 Small Mottled Willow, 3 Striped Hawks, 3 Scarce Bordered Straw, 2 Oak Processionary, Small Marbled, Comopolitan etc etc!
Another great night of field trapping at Eight Kings Quarry on Portland, with migrant highlights of 3 Purple Marbled, Small Marbled, Beautiful Marbled, 3 Oak Processionary (part of a small influx), 2 Striped Hawkmoths, & Bordered Straw #TeamMoth @dorsetmoths.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Striped Hawkmoth and Bordered Straw Hailsham VC14 last night. My first livornica of the summer and always a treat - just smart 😬 #TeamMoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Purple Marbled x3 (!) - all in the same trap at Freshwater Bay, Portland and of the same 'non purple' var. so again probably locally bred in this remarkable moth summer: @saturdaycatbird.bsky.social @portlandbirdobs.bsky.social
