Going to the coast with two 16 year olds is a perpetual photo shoot of non-posing poses. At sunset. Atop rocks. On a bench. Walking away. Hang on, walking back. Never ever with an adult in the frame.

Imagine holding an inquiry about whether Micky Mouse is racist or not, while there is a massive war going on, and people are struggling to make ends meet. This amount of taxpayer waste by culture war politicians should constitute financial fraud.
Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.
Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”
Sen. Booker to Todd Blanche: "Your nomination should fail. The Attorney General's client is not the president, it's the American people. You've been protecting one person for most of your career…You should not be confirmed to this job."
The horror of going offline for several days and having to catch up on state sponsored executions.
*one of these was National Guard, not a fed. Apologies for losing track of all the categories of unaccountable men in uniform executing people.
With two people dead in Memphis in four days and one the same week in Houston, that's four people federal agents have shot and killed over just nine days. July 5: Tyrin Johnson July 7: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo July 8: Alfonso Ivy July 13: name not released yet
I‘m 30,000 words into “Cheated Rivalry,“ about two students who meet cute at the office of academic misconduct after using ChatGPT to write their essays. They fall in love while discovering the power of doing this own critical thinking in college.
I'm afraid I have already sold "cleated rivalry," sponsored by FIFA. Sorry slowpokes, it's done.
Happy publication day to American Made! It’s a collection of compelling interviews with people living and working during the Great Depression, from meatpackers in Chicago to fishermen in Massachusetts, farmers in Nebraska, and workers building the New York City subway. So many memorable stories!

stuff like this is why one important avenue for court reform is just nixing the shadow docket altogether and forcing these people to explain themselves to the public when they issue orders. also, making their records property of the united states and subject to publication when they leave the bench.
Amy Coney Barrett just told Congress that it would be inappropriate to explain the reasoning behind the Court’s unreasoned shadow docket orders. As if unreasoned judicial orders are a thing. They are not. The reasoning is the whole point.
Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, implies during a press conference her government will take action after an ICE agent killed Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

Once again, a Black woman was captured in a moment where she must confront the worst of America with composure and become the mirror that shows the distance between who we are and who we say we are — or who we want to be — as a country. @errinhaines.bsky.social via @19thnews.org
The Black woman on the train did not look away. How much longer will we?
A viral photo from July 4 captured an unidentified Black woman’s composure amid a sea of masked white men — and became a mirror for our democracy at 250.

Climate change is a killer hellscape that we will not get out of with mere 'personal responsibility.' We deserve systemic responses and we deserve elected officials that make it happen.

As a former professional athlete, this is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. Your kid has a less than 1% chance of getting an athletic college scholarship. You’re better off putting the money into a 529 plan.
Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."
Over and over again lifelong Democrat incumbents are being primaried by younger, more progressive immigrant challengers because people haven't lost faith in the idea of the Democratic Party, just the leadership of it. Every time a moderate complains, an immigrant realizes they too can run and win.

Looking at social media reactions to the SCOTUS and it really highlights how the GOP will get 99% of what they want, ignore that, and focus on demanding that 1% more. Dems will get 1% of what they want, immediately give up on the other 99%, and call the day a victory.
