A man buys a paper, looks at the front page and throws it away. Every day he does the same thing. The newsman asks, "You buy a paper every day, look at the front page, and throw it out?" "I'm checking for an obituary." "Obituaries aren't on the front page!" "The one I'm waiting for will be."
It should be so spectacular, for so long, that the public accountability becomes white noise. We should become *bored* with all the accountability, it should go so long.
Agree 💯 and emphasize “spectacular” Proportional to Bannon’s shock and awe tactic of flooding the zone with bullshit… A torrential cavalcade of accountability. A devastating supercell of mesocyclonic justice. This is the way!
I’m interested in any political imagination for accountability. It has to be proactive & retroactive. It has to be spectacular. And, ideally, it would leave so many of them broke that it actually becomes a deterrent. Being poor is truly all they care about not because they don’t care about prison.
NY Tmes exec editor Joe Kahn said in 2024 that the issue of democracy's survival was not a top priority in his newsroom's coverage. Now Trump is sending federal agents to NYT reporters' homes to deliver subpoenas over coverage he doesn't like. I wonder if democracy is a priority for Joe now.
The Trump regime issued subpoenas to NY Times journalists over their reporting on Trump’s new Qatari-donated Air Force One. NYT called the subpoenas “an extraordinary escalation in Trump’s efforts to threaten and intimidate independent news organizations.” The dictator Trump hates the free press.
If the GOP really wanted to get rid of folks in America who are undermining our constitutional democracy and destroying our freedoms then I suggest they start in earnest with their base.
The hill I will die on: any Immigration Debate is a Racism Debate. Stopping people coming into a country illegally is not an immigration issue, it’s a security issue, like stopping drugs or guns. Any other immigration talk is just about keeping out people you don’t like.
it isn't right for any one country or any one person to be able to wreck life-sustaining aid and assistance this unilaterally, but since it's happened, the very, very, very least we can do now is to make sure there's accountability and restitution
I say this with no will or animosity: if you hate voters, stop fucking texting us asking for money.
I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.
Last week, I was sitting in an arbitration hearing against the Post, in which Post leadership labeled me as a threat. And excused away the purging of Black opinion writers, questioning our merit. Today, I’m receiving a Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
This is what happens when queer people hate your party. There’s no one there to plan one.
objectively very funny that the president of the united states flanked by all three branches of government under his unilateral control simply cannot Organize an Event.
So incredibly wrong. I've never used AI when working on a story. I've used it for other things, but not my writing or my research!!!

It is EXCEEDINGLY important that if you have a R MoC, you find SOME WAY to ratchet up the pressure on both the Bunker-Ballroom and the Terrorist Slush Fund. I suggested earlier you pick an awful Jan6er and make him the poster child of the Slush Fund. Put up wanted posters or something.
Senate Rs are bailing out of Washington till June hoping the fury will die down. No. Them going home just means Trump's BunkerBallroom, Thug Fund, and Iran continue on autopilot. Can't let up on these things.

Hakeem Jeffries told the press that impeachment is not a priority if Demoocrats recapture the House, citing affordability issues. Donald Trump is the single biggest contributor to the rising cost of living:

In what other areas of life - politics, justice, community, family, or society generally - does it benefit us to loudly declare that something will never get done? (Particularly when the thing in question is necessary?) For example: "You know they'll never impeach." A thought experiment. 🧵
Important message that the Democratic leadership in Congress should listen to. They won't even try reining in the dying, bloodthirsty pedophile in the White House because they're too afraid to fail. But their constituents see past the bullshit and are ready to vote them out of office.
Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking to the historic NASA Artemis crew. I asked MD native & Commander Reid Wiseman what advice he'd give any young person looking to follow in his footsteps. His message: explore & keep trying. Learning how to fail can be the key to success.
The White House can come after me all they want. I won't stop fighting. Donald Trump is unfit for office. And it's getting worse. He should be impeached.
i’ve been asked a few times recently about why it’s so important to me as a journalist to describe things plainly—like referring to the planned ICE warehouses as concentration camps. seeing the term used in a letter to the secretary of defense is proof that journalists’ word choices have impact.
Social movement scholar here to comment on No King again. a 🧵: These protests are important b/c: 1.) as sustained image events, protests offer evidence of continued disapproval of the direction the country is going and disavowal of the country's leadership.
The NY Times saves its harshest skepticism for progressives. Instead of being impressed by 3,000+ coordinated protests, NYT dismisses the value of “hitting a number” and asks if No Kings will be “a primal scream that fades into a whimper.” F off, NY Times. We'll defeat fascism w/o you. (Gift link)
Trump is the leader of the pedophile protection party. Trump is in the Epstein files 38,000 times. Trump wrote to Epstein about their “wonderful secret.” Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet (and lied.)

The United States government is currently covering up evidence the President sexually and physically assaulted a 13 year old girl and is demanding every AI company allow their products to be utilized for mass surveillance of Americans and autonomous weapons systems. Not great!
In case you missed it, I'll be introducing articles of impeachment against Pam Bondi. She's obstructing justice, weaponizing the DOJ against Trump's political enemies, and breaking the law. It's time she's held accountable.
If you don't feel compelled to protect children from violent men, then you don't deserve to participate in our shared society.

It would be great if the top two stories about the executive branch were not a huge multinational child rape coverup and the establishment of a gulag of concentration camps
Mamdani, Mejia, AOC - that's the present and future of the Democratic Party that can bring about transformational change. The people who aren't paid by the DNC or corporate media or corporate donors see it clearly Others choose to ignore it to maintain a broken system that profits them.
