good reminder that before the counting is over, election results don’t tighten. at no point is anyone trailing. nobody moves closer. they’re just tabulating the polls. it’s a fixed number that just isn’t done yet. to say otherwise is bad journalism but even worse math.

Bluesky oldheads will remember that brief period of time when the conservative trolls tried to storm the place and were flummoxed by the idea they would have to organically grow an audience and that someone who didn't want to talk to them could nuke every interaction they ever had from orbit
Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
Jesus died for somebody's sins...but just in case
Pope Leo received singer and songwriter Patti Smith in private audience this morning. The Pope and Smith are both Chicago natives. She was accompanied by @antoniospadaro.bsky.social, undersecretary for the Vatican's Dicastery for Culture and Education.

When I first saw the trailer for Forgetting Sarah Marshall and was introduced to Russell Brand, my first thought was "who's this Devendra Banhart motherfucker?" I would like to now apologize to Devendra Banhart.
Gotta shut down the factory that makes this kinda guy
I was working at the record store during the “Once” era and every single vaguely sensitive-looking person who walked into the store bought a copy of the soundtrack. I could spot them from a thousand paces
Sheryl Crow's 2nd album finally out on vinyl 👍 ...as a $55 "vinylphile" exclusive 👎👎👎

This is Finn. He likes to ominously stand on his hind legs in the water. We've asked him to stop but he won't. Still 13/10 (TT: firstmatefinn)
Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" on a tv ad for a local top 40 station. Very excited whenever it played, but my parents were at their churchiest at that time, so owning it was out of the question. 1/2
reposting bc typo in original. fellow music heads: what was the first song you were truly obsessed with? my parents had to take the record for this one away from me because i was playing it over and over:
This video of a woman telling an anti-abortion asshole to, "Shut the fuck up" is exactly what I needed to see on a Monday morning
Against my protestations, one of the Friday the 13th movies at a sleepover. I hid under a blanket.
Do you remember what *your* first R-rated movie was? I finally asked my mom (I couldn't remember), and she told me it was The Lost Boys when I was roughly the same age as my daughter (about 9). The movie traumatized her more than it did me, apparently

Per Matt Pinfield on Facebook, it appears the earliest full-time host of MTV's 120 Minutes Dave Kendall has died. Dave was the pre-Grunge host, when 120 minutes was still full of truly outsider videos and stuff that hadn't or would never cross over. R.I.P. king!
It’s so heartbreaking and devastating to see groundbreaking artists who should be resting on their laurels fundraising for medical expenses. Let’s boost the fuck out of this please!!
Attention L7 fans: well this is some bullshit. Spread the word and chip in if you can. (Further, per a note from the band, looking ahead to their farewell tour: "Jennifer has asked L7 to continue with the tour as planned, which the band has made the decision to do.")
Best “remove glasses to look at something unbelievable” in cinema history.

I'm a cover art nerd with a strong love of text as an integral design element, so the trend of textless covers over the last 10-15 years is a bummer. Et tu, Dinosaur Jr?? The band name on your covers has always been such a great part of them. 👎
No way to prevent this, says only candidate to whom this regularly happens
From @benkail.bsky.social at the @bangordailynews.bsky.social: "Graham Platner has postponed a string of events Sunday and Monday as rumors circulate among Maine Democrats and over social media about another potentially damaging story to come about the oyster farmer’s past."

Tortured myself just now trying to remember Sondre Lerche's name only to discover he's consistently been dropping albums every couple years despite me not even thinking about him since the first Obama administration.
Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis should have been hanged.
