Survivorship bias is real. People have thoroughly memory-holed COVID, even those who suffered multiple infections or lengthy post-COVID symptoms. "I'm done with COVID," patients tell me when I suggest they update their vaccine - including those who get an annual flu shot and are at very high risk.

there’s a thread on reddit right now called “was COVID really that bad?” and it is interesting to read people’s accounts five years out there seems to be a collective trauma response where people (outside of healthcare workers) don’t remember how many people died someone called it anticlimactic

You might hear them say the forecast models were right, that there was nothing they could have done. FALSE. The firing of over 600 staffers at the NWS led to the inability of having personnel to notify local authorities. They in turn would have notified the public. Trump killed 70 people in Texas.
