Due to the AWS outage, people may have experienced issues migrating over the past ~18 hours due to AWS SES (Simple Email Service) being down. You might want to hold off on migration for about another 24 hours until Amazon sorts their issues out.

Correct! This week we built a fallback mechanism to query slingshot, constellation, and the PDS directly. For now it is limited "read only". Soon enough you'll be able to interact with Link on blacksky.community

So last night I migrated @gregpak.net from Bluesky to Blacksky's myatproto.social server for non-Black users! A few thoughts on the process for anyone thinking about this...

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11
app.wafrn.net is another option that is somehow native to both activitypub and atproto and they seem to have a good time. pdsmoover.com by @baileytownsend.dev , @tektite.cc, and atpairport.com by @knotbin.com are PDS migration tools and the devs for each are very helpful
That was enough for me to get over my inertia and move to @blackskyweb.xyz using @tektite.cc Also everyone making the move: if you can afford to set up a monthly donation, do so

options: a) done w/ bsky completely: @anew.social built tool to migrate from bsky to mastodon or Pixelfed called bounce bounce.anew.social (beta) b) use network, but avoid company: move to indie pds blog.indexx.dev/3lz3kftpf4k25 using tools like @tektite.cc and use alt clients like @tokimeki.blue
for what it's worth, Rudy made the myatproto.social and cryptoanarchy.network specifically for people who are not black but want to be hosted by a non-bsky entity. There's multiple posts where he confirms this. @tektite.cc is their PDS migrate tool, blacksky.community client, mods @blackskyweb.xyz
Writing a bit of an opinion piece in this weeks retrospective leaflet
 tools are all pretty simple. Not a lot of moving parts, not always the most user friendly. etc. Well, I thought I would talk about that a bit. It's not complete laziness, although that is a bit of it. It takes a lot of energy to create great software for free, and I'll be the first to tell you that. Not being spiteful, just honest. I am extremely blessed to be able to do that and help others. It brings me a lot of joy to be able to help others out and make a change in the world for the better. Even if it's a small one. But there is a price to the work.
I keep these tools simple with the idea of less moving parts, less logic, and less just general UI moving around means less to break and easier to test. For example [pdsmoover.com](https://pdsmoover.com) is just one long form you fill out. Doesn't really hold your hand or do a ton of checks like, is it actually a PDS, is that handle available, selectable domain endings, does it require an invite code, and etc. Instead, it fails and give yous an error if one of those edge cases are met. All of that is accessible, and there are other migration tools out there like [atpairport.com](https://atpairport.com/) and[ tektite.cc](https://tektite.cc/) that do a fantastic job of integrating that which ends up providing a much cleaner user experience.
Well why don't I integrate that into PDS MOOver? Well, when I created the tool I took a look around at everything offered and the one tool I used with the most success and everyone recommended was the [goat](https://whtwnd.com/bnewbold.net/3lj7jmt2ct72r) cli. But it wasn't without it's faults (minor and still a goat of a cli tool). 1, a higher level of entry with it being a cli tool. 2, a lot of times the PLC token you entered at the start would be expired by the time it uploaded all your data to the new account. Re worded some of the status updates for missing.pdsmoover.com Found in real world accounts that expected blobs and imported would not always match up as expected. Was causing some confusion. So now uses listMissingBlobs as the check if any are missing and hide some of the stats counts from the ui
New update! - Some users were experiencing frozen 0% uploads and the migration just ceased. The update should address this. - Improved rate limiting: When folks have a lot of data, the servers can throttle migrations, causing migration progress to stall. Tektite handles this a bit better now.
