PDS folks! Working on a redesign of the authentication and dashboard screens for the reference PDS, bringing in a proper component library and consistent patterns across the UI. One notable change: customizable light/dark backgrounds on the auth screens. Let us know what you think! #atproto

hey bluesky, i've been unemployed for over a month and figure it's about time to start serious looking for something new. i'm proficient in typescript/the js ecosystem, elixir, and can learn new stuff pretty fast. also familiar with using LLMs in various ways.
i still currently believe that free and open-source software bundled with self-hosted options are the only sustainable path forward for content creators longterm we should be educating and sharing knowledge on these tools now more than ever
🧵 Blacksky is looking to buy a server for $30k USD. We'd like the following specs or better: - 384 GB RAM - 80 TB NVMe; ZFS RAIDZ2 in 2 vdevs - 1 Gbps + 10 Gpbs burstable - at least 84 threads for the CPU(s) - Ideally somewhere in the eastern half of North America but open to North America and EU
Anyone have Linux laptop recommendations? (not Framework)

@ewancroft.uk how to reveal you don't know anything about history. England tried to actively murder the Gaelic languages and you could write volumes on the US and Canada (sterilizing Native women in modern day [1]). Japan has largely ignored its erasure of the Ainu. [1] apnews.com/article/cana...
If you’ve seen this article, you may be sitting with anger, pain, or just exhaustion at dealing with another helping of colonial nonsense. We feel a responsibility to speak back when these colonizing narratives show up, yet again, in such a prominent venue. endangeredlanguages.com/story/respon...
@pckt.blog if you add @gleam.run syntax highlighting I’ll make a cute blog about learning Gleam <3 *the auto syntax detection mostly works, I’m just nagging you for the most inconsequential feature imaginable heh
A lot of the devs on atproto on here seem to be like, why won't any users use my stuff well, bc a not inconsiderable amount of current atproto users on bluesky are artists and marginalized people and you have a fuckass chatgpt ghibli pfp. I cannot emphasize this enough, you are signaling you don't
@iame.li relay.garazyk.xyz it's running on a small @exe.dev vm so it only has selfhosted.social crawled brb unborking git history, I'll comment with the link soon. The current state of the code is very llm-assisted. This is just proof that the code does, in fact, run for some definition of "run" ✌️

@djara.dev @marque.at is a domain registrar meant to be "atproto native", i.e. it has a few integrations like for @wisp.place or handles for Bluesky. I don't know if there are specifics for the AP side of @wafrn.net that could be made easier or what kinds of integration are possible/useful.
This week, I sat in a church on Staten Island and listened to 26 community leaders of different faiths discuss what their congregants need most from city government.
damn, @protobase.at is the pds-as-a-service we've all been asking for since the start, good stuff @aka.dad
I think it's actually doubly important to understand how these models work even if you're very anti-ai because it's easy to spin the narrative if you don't. Also I have misgivings about how anthropomorphized this tech is.
The coverage on this OpenAI incident is abysmal. Use of the terms "rogue" and "loss of human control" lead to groupthink as people lack the critical skills to understand the difference between "autonomy" and faulty reward functions in AI on a task it was directed and given access to do.
It is economically beneficial for the big US AI corps to scare politicians into heavily regulating AI with their guidance, a tactic to quash competition and likely outlaw open weight models. There are legal and ethical issues with (gen)AI, but imagine the only legal models being proprietary.
Bernie hasn't tried this on here yet but here he is doing free marketing for OpenAI. He has been captured by the worst people in AI for a few years now and has been parroting company hype talking points instead of guarding against them. It’s like the public is being assaulted from all sides.
@iame.li's talk at the IETF meeting is now discourse.atmosphere.community/t/support-fo... or he's streaming at @stream.place (but if you can give the IETF traffic)
"liminal Normandy beach" is a real phrase I just heard in reference to the game lucidblocks.com @lucyblocks.com knows what they did Lucid Blocks is what if Minecraft but fever dream
My only comment besides being wary of how difficult this is to implement properly (ex: deps) is that I wish that forgejo/codeberg were serious about federation via forgefed. @fediverse.stefanbohacek.online how many forgefed-enabled forgejo instances do you know of? I know 2 including the demo.
Huh, insane. Codeberg will now disallow vibe-coded projects. codeberg.org/Codeberg/org...
