Harvey Pekar was a great Letterman guest, but he was real. When I got to interview him, I understood the sorrow of being used. I'ld love to talk to Letterman about this. Pekar played the part, but he was an easily ridiculed oddity when, in reality, he was a radical, hyper-educated bomb-thrower.

This is doing another round, so I’ll add that like other political posters Schatz used to DM with me but I asked him to stop because I didn’t think he was communicating in good faith. Ultimately, a lot of politicians just tell people what they want to hear until they can’t get away with it anymore.
