Reading the comments on this makes me wonder if anyone actually listened to the podcast. He said no AI slop, no bots, no algos and no ads. Yes to content moderation and yes to more users. Shocking and controversial stuff. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

That's how LLMs are designed. It patronizes you and gives answers confidently even if they are wrong. You have to have your guard up 100% of the time using them. This isn't a side effect. This is how they plan on getting a return on their enormous investment. It worked with social media.

YouTuber Hank Green Admits He Has Unhealthy Relationship With AI After Facing Backlash Over Recent Video 'The level of dopamine I've been getting from interacting with LLMs is not healthy for me,' said Green

I wanna use this to go on a bit of a rant, I was going to blog about this, but no one reads blogs, so here's a thread about how I use AI and how I understand his "dopamine" comment. And how I think A LOT of you are in an anti-AI bubble and you just don't understand how prevalent this is becoming.

Went to Insta because I got a DM. The first thing the algo fed me was this. (Someone selling an online course or something.) "Your art can't compete with a paycheck. And that's how decades disappear." Now I want to curl up and die. Thanks, Zuck. So glad I'm not on that platform anymore.

With the Arrow sale going on, I was really considering getting the TMNT trilogy. Then I found this at my used media shop. All 4 movies for $12. These films are really grainy anyway. I doubt 4K would fix anything. Plus the discs are pizzas! 🍕 Cowabunga!

To the other Josh Nichols out there who got a $40k personal loan and used my email address: Thanks for wasting my day making sure I wasn’t a victim of fraud. At least all the credit bureaus for me are now frozen with alerts. I was meaning to do that anyway.

Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.

DHH tweet saying “This is why we need competition and open weights in Al. Imagine a world where only Anthropic sat as the moral arbiter of acceptable speech. Fucking ridiculous. (Grok of course did it no problem, same too with Kimi K).” when presented with his blog post using a slur about the Roma people.

Dug out my copy of Six String Samurai to watch and it's just a basic widescreen DVD. Looks pretty bad on a big TV. Just found out it was released on 4k UHD/Blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome ... five years ago and is sold out everywhere. :-(

The Analogue 3D had a great update. It's been a while since I've updated the firmware. We now have some upscaling, force progressive scan, overclocking, memory support with flash carts, and cartridge customization. I'm sure there's more. The N64 never looked so good! www.reddit.com/r/AnalogueIn...

Colorforms began with vinyl scraps stuck to a bathroom wall in NJ, then grew into a toy found in millions of homes. The company has tried action figures, VHS tapes, and computer software, but the original idea has barely changed. Today, I took a look at their history. www.retroist.com/p/colorforms

I heard this again: "Today is the worst AI will be. It's only going to get better." Kiddo, you may not have been born yet, but Facebook was legit amazing at one time. Google Reader existed. The internet was incredible. It all enshittified over time. This is absolutely the best AI will ever be.
