What if the Right's lurid claims were true? Malignant, deceptive forces are infiltrating every community, killing little old ladies and robbing children of their futures? And yet mainstream media mostly ignores the real cause? This is true--but it's fossil fuels.

We are not serious about the climate crisis until we are serious about nationalizing the oil companies. They are NOT going to phase themselves out. Meanwhile they are free even to make windfall profits that won't be taxed as such. Lunacy.

This is my first article in Truthdig. It describes the late CIA Director R. James Woolsey as the godfather of national security capitalism and reveals how his Paladin Capital and other defense-oriented private equity funds are financed: by America's largest labor unions and their pension funds.

The recently deceased former CIA director and Paladin Group founder taught Washington how to spin Islamophobia and "homeland security" into business gold. By @timshorrock.bsky.social

Now would be a good time for journalists to write about WHY Trump trashed the JCPOA. Because the Black guy did it. It was a world historical achievement that going to be big in the Obama legacy. The Iran war is brought to you by racism.

Mostly people in the US are poorly educated and uninformed. They vote their guts and then rationalize. They also see more role playing actors (because of teevee) than ever before in human history. Now a lot of people find role playing actors in politics to be "authentic." See: Trump and Platner

Since 2000, a train has derailed in Nebraska roughly once every 7 days. Between 2000 and 2023, Nebraska has had the 5th most train derailments in the country. The railroad industry's response? Fight the Railway Safety Act and push a $72 billion merger that would make them even LESS accountable.

Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern want to merge into one massive railroad monopoly. Railroad mergers: • Make shipping more expensive for farmers. Less competition means railroads can charge whatever they want. •Raise prices for consumers. When shipping costs go up, the price of everything goes up.

It's looking like there will be a peace deal with Iran. I am very grateful for this, but this whole escapade has meant billions in taxpayer money spent and American lives lost. What did we get? Higher gas prices and less trust from our allies. This has not made us any safer.

This is the whole thing in one line. Competition is the surface, cooperation is the substrate. Every firm that competes is a knot of people coordinating to exist. The market story hides its own foundation. Who benefits from that hiding?
