Stories need a place to live. We make homes for folklore in the landscape, give legends a lithic address. Old kings, names eroded by time, haunt chambered tombs. Cup and ring marks become giants' fingerprints. The Devil acquires yet another boot scraper. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday
Some of my colleagues use the term 'stone botherer' as slur. I refuse this. We might not view portal tombs as 'ley line hubs' or 'ghost-containment units', but we archaeologists are also stone botherers and I for one am proud of it. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday
To be clear, there is no ethical AI you can use. AI almost always means Arseholes Involved. If you are using AI/LLMs (Likely Lying Machines) to promote your work you are dead to me. Get some respect for the planet, the people whose work was stolen and the power of your own work to promote itself.
Double take on this church door sign when my brain read the bottom line first...
The fact that Nyong’o’s beauty is causing a war between two rival cultures in America right now is proof enough that she is the perfect Helen of Troy.
Record Shop Day is to music people as St Patrick's Day is to people who love pubs. The one day of the year when you make a point of going nowhere near a record shop/pub.
One the eve of Record Store Day - your annual reminder that a record store is for life, not just for Christmas. Or something. #RSD
Reposted with ALT cos its funny . How using an algorithim to select photos for your news article is going:
neolithic guys get pissed if you tell them their cultures are organized by the type of pots and jewelry they made. "we called ourselves the blood hunters" "we conquered villages far beyond this horizon" sorry bud you're the western linear pottery culture now

What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain. 😅
The land has been year-walked. The future has been met in the lanes and ways. The cunning folk have conferred. On the doors of The Raven, The Woodwose's Crown and all the other pubs they use, the proclamation has gone up: 'This is the YEAR OF THE GREEN PATHS.'
I am gonna make it through this year if it kills Smee

Artists pour their hearts and souls into an album. The idea that you can ‘get it’ on a single listen is an absurdity.
“What sort of music is this Dad?” “It’s influenced by a lot of drone doom but they’ve really experimented with the instruments and feel of it. Almost like some of the ambient stuff” “Oh right. I suppose because it’s an experiment it doesn’t have to be good does it?” Kids are brutal.
Some #urbanprehistory for #standingstonesunday today. Pronssikautinen hauta Bronze Age cairn, right next to the hospital in Helsinki near the shore. A miracle anything has survived
Spinsters’ Rock dolmen on the edge of Dartmoor for #tombtuesday More photogenic than some of the other cairns on the moors. Nothing is going to beat Down Tor though. Just me and the ponies and an all timer of an experience

I love how certain cities hold their most iconic musicians as patron saints and part of the city's identity. Minneapolis has Prince. We in Austin Have Willy. New Orleans has Dr. John. Genuinely curious: Who is your city's musical patron saint?
Anything else w/ this much experimentally verified evidence tends to get thought of as "settled." Weird how it's the science that consistently says "forcing a framework of means testing, the protestant work ethic, & punishing people for being poor is bad, actually" gets repeated incredulity & shock
A German experiment has found that people are likely to continue working full-time even if they receive no-strings-attached universal basic income payments.
I've yet to meet a stone circle without a desire line towards it, without the grass outside and inside of it wearing rings carved by the revolutions of lithic pilgrims. The Long Neolithic as a refusal to stop manifesting a sense of sacred on the landscape. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSundday
There's delicious irony in those lithic houses of the dead being part of why the Long Neolithic lives still. For these tombs are alive in our imaginations, alive in our papered tellings of history. A breathing presence in our stories of place. – Dr. K Brophy #StandingStoneSunday
