Any country that fails to address wealth and income inequality in a timely manner creates the conditions for authoritarianism, totalitarianism, and fascism. America is living through that lesson today; it’s up to us in Canada to ensure we won’t soon have to follow suit.

Canada has a simple choice to make: allow Big Oil’s excess war-driven profits to go directly into the pockets of US/foreign investors and Canada’s richest, or tax those unearned gains and invest back into Canadians and a transition to a future-ready green economy. #cdnpoli

I want people to understand the full impact of the devastation that First Nations in Canada are facing. It's NOT just that people and wildlife are losing their homes...it's the history that is being lost for generations to come.

"A Canadian wealth tax could constrain the growth of billionaire wealth and raise $40 billion a year." A strong PM, sincerely concerned about nation building, would do just that instead of offering billionaires tax free status and the rest of us austerity #cdnpoli

Linda McQuaig: A wealth tax could transform our world

Although scorned today, America’s robust taxation of the rich in the middle of the last century amounted to an astonishing achievement of popular democracy, with huge public benefits.

Canada's natural resources are our common wealth being plundered by Big Oil. It's time to capture some of it to pay us common wealth dividends, like Alaska. 2 in 3 Canadians (all parties) support a windfall tax that can raise more in its first year than Canada’s entire ‘sovereign wealth fund’.

Globe and Mail opinion piece argues for taxing windfall oil profits as Canadians face higher fuel costs and inflation.

U.S./Iran peace deal has broken down... again. Go read this and share with your friends and family. Canada needs a windfall tax to rein in war profiteering now!

Broadbent Institute board members @peggynash.bsky.social (@policyalternatives.ca) & Jared Walker (@c4tf.bsky.social) argue for a windfall tax on the oil and gas industry to fight Iran-war inflation — an idea supported by a majority of Canadians. 📰 www.theglobeandmail.com/business/com...

Block quote from a Globe and Mail opinion article titled "Big oil makes billions as Canadians face Iran-war inflation. We need a windfall tax" by Peggy Nash and Jared A. Walker, published June 18, 2026. the quote reads, "North American analysts estimate that gas prices won’t return to prewar levels until mid-2027 at the earliest. Oil companies are set to continue their high profits, while inflation ripples across the economy. A windfall profits tax on the oil and gas industry could help remedy that disparity. And a recent poll shows a majority of Canadians support the idea."

“CUSMA is particularly valuable to the Canadian economy because it exempts nearly 90 per cent of Canada's exports to the U.S. from the tariffs Trump has imposed since his return to the White House.” Not really. The CUSMA exemption is arbitrary. www.cbc.ca/news/world/c...

Mark Carney is undermining the rule of law is with various pieces of legislation that let politicians unilaterally declare exceptions to various laws. So Canada is becoming a place where the current government picks and chooses where, when, & to whom our laws will or won't apply. 🧵1/

Canadian prime minister Mark Carney stands in front of four images.

In the top left corner behind Carney we see two business executives looking chummy together in a well lit corporate office. Text overlaying the image says "Bill C-15." A word bubble emerging from Carney's mouth clarifies part of what that legislation permits: "Cabinet can choose corporations to be exempt from having to follow federal laws."

In the bottom left behind Carney we see uniformed Canadian Border Patrol Agents, with text overlaying the image that says "Bill C-12." A word bubble emerging from Carney's mouth identifies a problem with that legislation: "Politicians can revoke groups' immigration status without oversight or due process."

Behind Carney on the right we see two more images. On the top, cooks are prepping ingredients in a kitchen. On the bottom, a man in a hazmat suit sprays a cloud of pesticides. Text overlaying the intersection point between the two images says "Bill C-30." A word bubble emerging from Carney's mouth specifies part of what's in that particular piece of egregious legislation: "Cabinet can override food safety guidelines and authorize use of banned pesticides."

This is an outrageous state of affairs. This kind of degradation of our healthcare services paves the way for what Alberta is doing - undermining Medicare and allowing privatization under the pretense of allowing people the choice to pay to skip wait times. www.thestar.com/news/canada/...

Canada’s emergency departments are in worse shape than before the pandemic. This is how bad it’s gotten

An analysis by CIHI found that one in 10 patients who required admission to hospital last year were forced to wait more than two days in Emergency.

After our report on wealth inequality at the national level a few months ago, @obsqcinegalites.bsky.social approached me to ask whether we could produce similar estimates for the provincial level. A few months later, here's the result!

New report: Extreme wealth inequality is soaring all across Canada — good thing we've got a wealth tax for that! 🎩🥂 See how your province stacks up here: bit.ly/C4TFProvWealth
