The amount of working artists I've spoken to who are losing or have lost the ability to make a viable career out of it due largely to people's use of genAI instead of hiring artists is genuinely so upsetting. We won't know what we've lost until it's gone.

Still thinking about the Luddites I came across this. How fascinating it is to watch what might be the germ of a neo-Luddite movement around surveillance technology. And a guy writing a nudge-wink, fuck-the-man, banger of a country song makes me feel American in a way that for once isn’t pejorative.

John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats offered an explanation that makes the most sense to me. My paraphrase: nursing is a huge, highly in-demand profession that offers a pathway to economic stability (particularly to women) that you can get into with test-prep effort rather than academic prowess

Look I know the American state department has terrorized the entire globe for the last 80 years and it is a blight on humanity, but what you dont understand is that they have done the exact opposite in this one particular country and I've made this my entire politics, they would not lie about this.
