The weirdest part of LinkedIn these days is people criticising AI with clearly AI written posts.

Starting to notice an uptick of vibe-coded portfolios that look great on first glance, but get more shallow the more you look. It's going to get more time-consuming to evaluate work and portfolios.
I like to give talks standing up, and sometimes you gotta make do with whatever is around you.
back when i was interviewing, i recorded myself to practice. now, i'm uploading that take as a resource for others on what a "principal product designer"-level presentation looks like: jedmund.com/universe/por... this is exactly what i'd show in an interview, so at 25 mins it is a little long.

A few months ago, I came across a recording I made of my personal portfolio presentation and thought it would be good to share as a resource for other designers...

I've been thinking lately that there's quite a big difference in designing software that people buy for itself (e.g. Linear, Todoist, Slack) Vs designing something you help you browse the content (e.g. Spotify, Amazon, Zalando) We call ourselves product designers, but not everything is a product.
Doing some well overdue clean up of my domain, hosting and email providers. Step 1 is mapping it all out.
Been a Raycast user for along time, but just tried out Spotlight on Tahoe. Dear lord, what have they done to it?
I sat down with Tom Scott recently to talk about a wide range of topics about how we design at Superhuman (formerly Grammarly). We touched on hiring, how roles are shifting and how AI is changing everything. open.substack.com/pub/verified...

Found this artist on Spotify, trying to get plays by naming tracks after common voice assistant actions 😅
After reading this I gave exe.dev a shot and the combination of cheap VMs, the HTTPS proxy with passkey auth and link sharing, and the built-in LLM agent is... incredible. Like, I know how to use each of these things individually, but combining them feels like when I first learned to script things.
Just in time software
I didn’t plan to write software in the grocery store last night. I was tired and hungry, kids in tow. My long shopping list sat in a text message. I wished I could check items off as I found them.…

Tip for presenting your work, share the solution first. I'm interviewing a lot at the moment, and I notice a lot of people both in their portfolio and presenting live, focus 90% on background and 10% on the solution. It should be the reverse.
Is there a best practice way to share design work over Zoom and ensure high quality? It seems like screenshare compression got a lot worse in recent years, even for still screens.

If you liked A House of Dynamite but felt like the ending was unsatisfying, I highly recommend the book, The 2020 Commission, which is sort of a spiritual sequel to the movie.
Let's fight the algorithm. Share a post of something you made that didn't get its due because it was too wholesome and didn't ragebait.
I worked with Ikea on some of their smart home products. They had what they called the 'escalator approach'. When an escalator stops working, it's just a set of stairs, and remains usable. I thought that was a great way to think about home technology.
the fact that Pixelmator Pro, which was acquired by apple ~ 1 year ago, hasn't even updated their Mac App icon to the iOS26 standard yet doesn't give me much confidence that the app will be around for much longer 🥲

Today, we've updated Linear Mobile with an all-new design that looks great on iOS 26, and thanks to the powerful APIs #SwiftUI has been adding over the past few years, we're bringing it to iOS 18 with zero compromise. Get the update here: apps.apple.com/app/linear-m...
