For anyone who wants to know why I want to burn down Oxford style analytic philosophy and then salt the Earth where it stood, this is the thread for you. It covers: vagueness, time/space, coalgebraic modal logic, thermodynamics, Leibniz’s God, David Lewis, quantum mechanics, and God *as* dice.

I hate epistemicism with a burning passion, because it’s the one solution to the problem of vagueness that says “Pfah, no problem here!”. I’m all for dissolving false problems, but it doesn’t even rise to the level of an actual dissolution, because that would require more analysis than “Nuh, uh!”

This simple mechanism turns local signals into movement, changes in morphology, and biomass redistribution. It reproduces a wide range of experimentally observed Physarum behaviors, including chemotaxis, network formation, and balancing exploration vs exploitation in a two-armed bandit-like task. 9/

💥 🚀 New preprint! 🎉🥳 How do hundreds of organelles organize themselves into near-perfect patterns inside a cell, without a blueprint? We dive deep into how basal bodies (BBs) self-organize in MCCs - and how actin actively tunes their dynamics into order 🍪 🧵👇 (1/17)

Man, I remember those days. Scoring some Lyapunov exponents off a dodgy geezer in a pub; gathering at midnight on a disused airfield, five thousand strong, to bifurcate and bifurcate until the feigenbaums kicked in... It sounds so sordid now, but we were young and it was beautiful.

Remember when "chaos theory" was the hot thing? I'm reading an article from 1991 and it hit me in the face like the smell of a Starbucks inside a Barnes and Noble

Still from Jurassic Park (1993). Jeff Goldblum holds Laura Dern's curved hand and pretends to suspend a droplet of water over it as a way of explaining chaos theory. Dern, in profile, gazes at her hand with serious focus as she listens to him.

my uncle Spleen used to do kickflips off the woodshed. his job could best be described as "improvised dentistry." miss him so much. it's a shame what happened to him. shot point blank by his dog Rudy.
